MVC Announces Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Teams

ST. LOUIS- Elena Jankulovska has been named the MVC Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines a group of 18 student-athletes named to the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference women’s tennis scholar-athlete first team and honorable mention team, announced by the league office today. The team is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s tennis sports information directors.

Among the eighteen student-athletes been named to the 2023 MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams; seven of those student-athletes were named to the First Team. This year’s first team includes three players that have received previous MVC women’s tennis scholar-athlete first-team recognition. 

Twenty-nine student-athletes were nominated for They Valley’s scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CSC (College Sports Communicators) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must have participated in at least 75% of the regular-season matches or be projected to play in the MVC Championship, with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers were not eligible).

The scholar-athlete teams are decided by a vote of the league’s women’s tennis sports information directors, with approval from head coaches.
