MVC Women's Tennis Championship Day 2 Recap

Valparaiso, Indiana - The semifinals of the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championship was played on Saturday, April 26. No. 1 Murray State and No. 4 Belmont started off the day with Murray Stateadvancing to the finals. Murray State advances to its second straight final and continues their undefeated conference season. No. 2 UIC and No. 3 Illinois State continued with the final match of the day. UIC defeated Illinois State to advance to the finals in a rematch of last years semifinals and its first finals. 

Murray State 4, Belmont 2 - Box Score
Murray State started off the match behind after Belmont took the doubles point with wins in flight 1 and 2. Flight 1 proved to be the winning factor with it taking a tie-breaker to decide the winner. Murray State's Paola Campigotto earned the racers a point in flight 6 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Belmont kept it close with a point at flight 1 but Yu Kikawa was the deciding factor for Murray State. She won the deciding point in two sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4. 


UIC 4, Illinois State 1 - Box Score
UIC secured the doubles point with wins in flight 2 and 3. Flight 3 was the deciding factor with a 6-3 win. The Flames did not let up with a 6-3, 6-2 win by the MVC Player of the Year, Mayu Ushio in flight 1. Flight 4 finished quickly after (6-2, 6-2) to earn UIC another point.  The Freshman of the Year, Edit Cosmo, closed out the match for the Flames. Edit won in two sets (6-3, 6-4) in flight 2 to advance UIC to its first final in tennis since joining the MVC.
