MSU’s Trey Wall Concludes Season at NCAA Championship

MSU’s Trey Wall was the first Racer conference champion to play in the NCAAs since Patrick Newcomb in 2013

Murray State's Trey Wall, posted a final round 84 on a difficult Atkins Golf Course Wednesday at the NCAA D-I Men's Golf Urbana Regional in Urbana Illinois.

Wall, the first Murray State freshman to reach the NCAA level, earned the chance to compete after winning the Missouri Valley Conference individual title last month.

His score line over the 54-hole event was 78-74-84=236 as he played the first 45 holes with no score worse than bogey, while racking up three birdies on what was a stern test at the home course of the Illinois Fighting Illini.

"I am grateful to have been a part of this event this week," Wall said who placed 70th. "There are only 60 players in the nation that got to compete as individuals and to be able to do that as a freshman was amazing. I am looking forward to helping build this program at Murray State in my next three years. In the off season, my priority is to get stronger and longer on the golf course."

"Even before the practice round Saturday, Trey and I talked about how tough of a task this was going to be," said MSU head coach Jacob Miller. "It's all for one spot, and there were upperclassmen and some that are going to be on the PGA Tour here this week. So if you finished second or 50th, it didn't matter. All that mattered this week is that Trey was going to be a better player when the three rounds were over than he was at the start. I think that mission was accomplished and it's going to set him up for a busy summer of competition."
