MVC Women's Swim and Dive Championship - Day 2 Recap

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Day 2 of the MVC Women's Swim and Dive Championship concluded. The first night was won by Southern Illinois. The Salukis won both the 200y Medley Relay and the 800y Freestyle Relay. Southern Illinois set both the MVC overall and championship record in both. In the 200y Medley Relay, the Salukis finished first with a time of 1:36.84. Indiana State followed shortly behind with 1:39.49. In the 800y Freestyle Relay, Southern Illinois finished with a time of 7:12.16 while the Sycamores finished quickly behind the Salukis with a time of 7:14.74.

Thursday Night started off with a UIC first and second place finish in the first final of the night. Molly Kroeger finished in first for the Flames with a time of 4:47.20. Fellow Flame Madison Helmick earned a second place finish with a time of 4:47.62. Erin Cummins of Indiana State earned the final spot in the top three with a time of 4:50.26. 

Olivia Herron of Southern Illinois showcased her speed with a broken record in the 200y IM. Olivia earned first place and a new MVC championship record with a time of 1:57.85. Fellow Saluki Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez followed behind her with a time of 2:01.11 to earn second place. Alexandria Cotter of Indiana State earned third place with a time of 2:01.77.

Faith Larsen of UNI defended the 50y Freestyle with a third straight gold medal in this event. Faith finished with a time of 22.42. Chloe Farro of Indiana State finished with a time of 22.84 to earn second place. Quickly behind her, Emma Feltzer of Illinois State finished with a time of 22.91 to earn the last spot in the top three. 

In the 1 meter diving, Jecza Lopez earned a first place finish. The Sycamore showcased her skills breaking 300 total points with a total of 305.35 points. Eva Reyes of Illinois State followed closely behind with a score of 297.60 points. Kerry-Leigh Morrison of UIC earn the final top three spot with 261.90 total points.

Southern Illinois continued their dominance in the relays with a broken MVC overall and championship record in the 400y Medley Relay. Saluki Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Maria Padron Salazar, and Zaria Terry finished with a time of 3:34.56. Indiana State followed shortly behind with a time of 3:38.90. The Redbirds earn third place with a time of 3:39.49. 

After two days of competition, Indiana State leads the team scores with 492.5 followed by Southern Illinois with 441. The Bears are in third with 379, with UNI in fourth (360.5) and UIC in fifth (326). Little Rock, Illinois State, Valparaiso, and Evansville round out the team scoring. Prelims for the 100y Butterfly, 400y IM, 200y Freestyle, 100y Breaststroke, 100y Backstroke, and 3M Diving start at 10:30 AM CT tomorrow.
