Oxford, OH - The Missouri Valley Conference Men's Swim and Dive Championship continued Friday night in an exciting fashion. Nine Missouri Valley records have been broken in the first two days of competition. Friday night adds five more broken records.
Saluki Alex Santiago continued to break records. Santiago reset his own record in the 100y Butterfly in the first final of the night with a time of 45.30. Miami's Henju Duvenhage followed quickly behind with a time of 45.94 to earn second place. Benedek Andor (Southern Illinois) earned the final spot in the top three with a time of (46.79)
In the 400 IM, Allen Cotton (Miami) earned himself a first place finish and broke both the championship and overall record with a time of 3:47.06. Southern Illinois' Juraj Barcot with a time of 3:48.94 earned second place. The Redhawk's Owen Hoban would take third place with a time of 3:50.45.
The record breaking continued in the 200y Freestyle with a new championship and overall record set by the Redhawk's Bryce Menchhofer. Bryce earned first place with a time of 1:36.53. Missouri State's Reese Hodgins and Jack Grandy would round out the top three. Reese Hodgins earned second with 1:36.70 and Jack Grandy earned third with 1:37.08.
The Saluki's Tiago Faleiros showcased his speed in the 100y Breaststroke when he reset his championship record from prelims and broke the overall record with a time of 53.34 to earn first. Luigi Da Silva (Missouri Stat) followed 0.05 seconds behind to earn second place. Aidan Biddle earned Ball State their first top 3 finish in a final with a time of 53.81.
In the 100y Backstroke, Miami's Henju Duvenhage continued his record breaking when he reset his overall and championship record with a time of 46.31 to earn first place. Freshman Willem Huggins (Southern Illinois) earned second place with a time of 46.81. Rafe Dolan Peterson earned the final spot in the top 3 with a time of 47.51 for UIC.
The final part of the night concluded with the consolation competition of the 3M Diving competition and a thrilling 200 Freestyle Relay. The Redhawks earn its first relay win in MVC history. The speedy group of Tegan Barrier, Henju Duvenhage, Scott Spear, and Jack Herczeg earn first with a time of 1:18.59 for a new championship record. Ball State followed behind with a time of 1:20.39 to earn second. Missouri State closed out the top three with a time of 1:20.47
After three days of competition, Miami continued to stay in first with a total of 569 points. The Salukis follow behind with 452, and Missouri State have 401 to stay in third. UIC (325.5), Ball State(237.5), Valparaiso (113) and Evansville (79) round out the rest of the teams. Prelims for the final day start at 10:30am EST. The final day features the 1650y Freestyle, 200y Backstroke, 100y Freestyle, 200y Breaststroke, 200y Butterfly, 3M Diving final, and 400y Freestyle Relay.
