MVC Men's Swim and Dive Championship - Day 2 Recap

Oxford, OH - Day 2 of the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Swim and Dive Championship came to a close. The first MVC Men's Swim and Dive Championship since 2003 started off with a record breaking night on Wednesday. Southern Illinois' Alex Cimera, Tiago Faleiros, Alex Santiago, and Donat Csuvarszki started last night by breaking the MVC championship and overall record for the 200y Medley Relay. It did not take long before Missouri State followed in the Salukis path. George Holesinger, Jack Grandy, Reese Hodgins, and Brunno Suzuki for the Bears broke the 800y Freestyle Relay championship and overall record.

Day 2 continued the record breaking when Miami's Henju Duvenhage broke the championship record in the prelims 200 Individual Medley. Southern Illinois' Alex Santiago continued the record breaking by setting a new championship and overall record in the prelim of the 50y Freestyle with a time of 19.27. 

Missouri State starts off the finals with a first place finish by Reese Hodgins with a time of 4:25.06. Miami locked up second and third place with Bryce Menchhofer (4:27.07) and Tommy Frye (4:27.14). 

In the 200 IM Henju Duvenhage (Miami) broke the championship record he set during prelims and the overall record with a time of 1:43.79 to earn first. Miami's Allen Cotton followed behind him in second place with a time of 1:44:44. Saluki Benedek Andor earned third place with a time of 1:46.23. 

Southern Illinois' Alex Santiago broke both the overall and championship record he set during prelims to earn a first place finish with a time of 19.18. Fellow Saluki Donat Csuvarszki followed behind in second with a time of 19.83. Miami's Tegan Barrier beat out fourth place by 0.01 seconds to earn himself a third place finish.

In a historic fashion, Harrison Nolan (UIC) took first in the 1M dive final at the MVC Men's Swim & Dive Championship. Harrison scored 343.70 points in the first six dive final in MVC Men's Swim & Dive history and broke the overall record. Cole Tremewan (UIC) earned second place with a score of 302.60. Jackson Miller scored 295.95 points to earn third place.

A thrilling 400y Medley Relay concluded Thursday night. Willem Huggins, Tiago Faleiros, Alex Santiago, and AJ Terry showcased their speed and earned the Salukis a first place finish and a new championship and overall record with a time of 3:07.79. Miami followed quickly behind in second with a time of 3:10.65. Missouri State earned the final top 3 spot with a time of 3:12.13. 

After two days of competition in the books, Miami leads the team scores with 304 followed by Southern Illinois with 272 and Missouri State with 217. UIC, Ball State, Valparaiso, and Evansville all round out the team scoring. Prelims for the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, and 3M Diving begins at 10:30 AM EST tomorrow.
