ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its swimming and diving weekly honors on Tuesday.
MEN'S SWIMMER: Allen Cotton, Senior, Miami - Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern HS)
Allen Cotton had a strong performance this week, earning two first-place finishes and a fourth place finish against the University of Cincinnati. Cotton started the week off hot, taking first place in the 200-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 1:49.10. After that, the Michigan native earned a first-place finish in the 200 IM, posting a time of 1:51.50. Cotton wrapped his weekend up with a solid fourth place team finish in the 400-yard medley relay, turning in an individual time of 48.3 in the butterfly leg.
MEN'S DIVER: Storm Opdahl, Senior, Missouri State - Chisago City, Minn. (Chisago Lakes HS)
Storm Opdahl was impressive on the diving board in Missouri State's 222-122 win at home against Ouachita Baptist over the weekend. The weekly award is Opdahl's second of the season. On day one, in the one-meter diving competition, Opdahl won assuredly with a score of 332.85. On day two, in the three-meter dive, Opdahl once again was victorious with 337.85 points.
MEN'S FRESHMAN: Eli Rolfsen, Freshman, Miami - Kalamazoo, Mich. (Homeschooled)
Freshman Eli Rolfsen dominated this week’s meet against the University of Cincinnati, winning both of his events. He opened with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:33.94. Rolfsen followed up with another first-place showing in the 1000-yard freestyle at 9:23.55.
WOMEN'S SWIMMER: Georgina Bell, Sophomore, UIC - Wellington, New Zealand (Wellington Girls College)
Georgina Bell was dominant for the Flames against Illinois State, tallying four wins over the course of the meet in the 100 backstroke (57.33), 200 backstroke (2:03.49), 200 freestyle relay (1:35.51) and 400 medley relay (3:53.68) helping lead UIC to a 221-78 win over the Redbirds. Bell’s times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke rank in the top-five of the MVC.
WOMEN'S DIVER: Jecza Lopez, Junior, Indiana State - Guadalajara, Mexico (Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Jalisco)
Jecza Lopez continues to make history as the Sycamore diver continues to build off her record-setting 2024-25 campaign by qualifying for the NCAA Zones in both the 1M Springboard and 3M Springboard events in her first meet of 2025-26. Lopez won the 3M diving event on Friday night by nearly 30 points with a score of 290.40 over her six dives to qualify for the springs NCAA postseason. She followed up on Saturday winning the 1M Springboard by nearly the same margin with a score of 285.10, to also advance to the NCAA postseason qualifiers. She is the first Sycamore diver to qualify for both the 1M and 3M Springboard NCAA Zones in back-to-back seasons in program history.
WOMEN'S FRESHMAN: Aleca Howard, Freshman, Missouri State - Wichita State, Kan. (Trinity Academy)
Freshman Aleca Howard had a strong showing this weekend, despite a loss by the Bears. Howard won the 400-yard individual medley convincingly, clocking in a time of 4:27.28, as well as a first-place time of 2:07.24 in the 200-yard individual medley. Additionally, Howard earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:21.83.
