ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its swimming and diving weekly honors on Tuesday.
MEN’S SWIMMER: Luigi Maciel da Silva, Senior, Missouri State - Palmeira, Brazil (Emmanuel University)
Missouri State’s Luigi Maciel da Silva helped the Bears to a dual meet win over Omaha last weekend by picking up two individual event victories. He won the 100-yard breaststroke with an MVC-leading time of 53.19. In the 200-yard breaststroke, he clocked a victorious time of 1:57.18 to also lead The Valley in the event.
MEN’S DIVER: Christian Curtis, Junior, UIC – Flossmoor, Ill. (Homewood Flossmoor HS)
UIC’s Christian Curtis posted career-best performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events this past weekend as the Flames battled with Milwaukee. He finished first in the 3-meter with a score of 341.25 before tallying a winning score of 329.55 in the 1-meter event. He won each event by at least 40 points.
MEN’S FRESHMAN: Jay Stewart, Freshman, UIC – Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington High School North)
For the second-straight week, UIC’s Jay Stewart has been named the MVC Freshman of the Week. The rookie clocked a Valley-leading time of 20.20 in the 50-yard freestyle to win the event. Stewart also recorded the fourth-fastest time this season in the 100-yard butterfly, winning that event in a time of 48.73. He also served as a leg of UIC’s 200-freestyle relay time that finished in 1:23.91.
WOMEN’S SWIMMER: Lana Janson, Senior, Missouri State – Cape Town, South Africa (DF Malan Hoerskool)
Lana Janson helped Missouri State pull off the 179-118 dual meet victory over Omaha this past weekend. Janson clocked the second-fastest time in The Valley this season in the 100-freestyle, winning it in 50.57. She also recorded the fastest time by a Valley woman in the 200-yard freestyle with a victorious time of 1:49.12.
WOMEN’S DIVER: Kerry-Leigh Morrison, Senior, UIC – Gauteng, South Africa (St. Mary's School)
Kerry-Leigh Morrison helped UIC earn the 161.5-138.5 dual meet win over Milwaukee by winning the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Morrison posted a score of 265.28 in the 1-meter event and 270.38 on the 3-meter springboard.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN: Charlotte Sander, Freshman, UNI – Parkville, Mo. (Park Hill South HS)
Charlotte Sander broke the USD Natatorium pool record twice on Friday, as the Panthers finished first at the Coyote Extravaganza. Sander opened with a record time of 23.94 in the 50-yard freestyle, before breaking her pool record a second time on the second day, winning the event in a time of 23.77. Her time is the 11
th-fastest in the MVC this season. She also competed in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing third overall, in a time of 53.33.
