ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its swimming & diving weekly honors on Tuesday.
MEN'S SWIMMER: Malcolm Slater, Junior, Ball State - Zionsville, Ind. (Zionsville HS)
Ball State's Malcolm Slater won two of his three individual events as the Cardinals bested UIC, 186-112, on Friday night. Slater won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:37.98, before winning the 1,000-yard free in 9:36.66. His performance in the 500-yard free marked the fifth-fastest time in the event in The Valley this season, while his performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle was the sixth-fastest time logged. He also competed in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:05.02.
MEN'S DIVER: Harrison Nolan, Senior, UIC - Riverside, Ill. (Kentucky)
UIC's Harrison Nolan swept both diving events as UIC competed in dual meets against Ball State and IU Indy this past weekend. The senior opened with a score of 353.35 on the 1-meter springboard and 387.00 in the 3-meter event. He returned the next day and recorded season-best performances on each board (1M - 354.30; 3M - 392.10) en route to his victories.
MEN'S FRESHMAN: Jay Stewart, Freshman, UIC - Bloomington, Ind. (Bloomington High School North)
UIC's Jay Stewart won both of his individuals events in both meets against Ball State and IU Indy, as well as serving as a leg of the victorious 400-yard free relay. In the 50-yard freestyle on Friday, Stewart clocked a Valley-leading time of 20.20. His weekend-best performance of 48.73 in the 100-yard butterfly is the fourth-fastest time in the MVC this season.
WOMEN'S SWIMMER: Olivia Herron, Senior, Southern Illinois - Manchester, England (Ellesmere College)
Over the weekend, Olivia Herron and the Salukis were in action for a women’s only meet against Illinois and Illinois State. In all four individual meets that Herron competed in (the 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard IM), the Manchester, England, native came in first. She also set a personal best in the 100-yard IM. Herron also competed in two relay events for the Salukis, helping win the 400-yard medley relay and set three pool records at Illinois’ ARC Pool. Herron has now been named MVC Women’s Swimmer of the Week eight times throughout her career.
WOMEN'S DIVER: Jecza Lopez, Junior, Indiana State - Guadalajara, Mexico (Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Jalisco)
Jecza Lopez remained undefeated on the boards this weekend as the reigning MVC Champion took the 3-meter and 1-meter Springboard events inside the Deaconess Aquatic Center. Lopez topped the field by 30 points in the 3M diving event with a six-dive score of 275.90, before winning by 52 points in the 1M diving event with her 277.95.
WOMEN'S FRESHMAN: Megan Stewart, Freshman, Little Rock - Durban, South Africa (Curro Hillcrest HS)
Megan Stewart helped Little Rock finish second at Rice's Fall Splash Invitational. On the first day of competition, Stewart finished second in the 100-yard IM in a time of 58.33 before winning the 400-yard IM event in 4:23.87. She also clocked a winning time of 2:20.52 in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM (2:03.54). Her logged in the 100-, 200- and 400-yard IM events are the third-fastest in each event in The Valley this season.
