MVC Announces Weekly Golf Honors (Oct. 6)

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include UNI's Thomas Storbeck, UIC's Dasa Urbankova, and Missouri State's Kiser Pannier.

MEN'S
UNI's Thomas Storbeck (Gr., Ventura, Iowa) tied for sixth at the Big O Classic in Elkhorn, Neb., at Indian Creek Golf Course. Storbeck led the Panthers shooting 75-68-72 for a total score of 215. In his second round of the competition, Strobeck shot a 68 which was the team-best score of the tournament, but also his personal best score. UNI finished tied for 10th in a 14-team field, with a team score of 892. 

Southern Illinois took 7th place at the Georgia State Invitational with a team score of 886 (+22). Sophomore Braden Hoisington led the Salukis, finishing tied for 14th place, Hoisington shot a 73-73-73 for a final score of 219 (+3).

WOMEN'S
Just a day after firing her career-best round, Missouri State freshman Kiser Pannier went one shot lower last Wednesday in the final round at the Johnie Imes Invitational to tie for fourth of 84 players in just her second collegiate event. Pannier rattled off three consecutive birdies on the front nine and five in total to card a three-under-par 69 at The Club at Old Hawthorne to record the low round of the day. After opening the tournament Monday with a 79, the Sedalia, Mo., native came back with 70-69 to finish at two-over 218 and lead the way for the Bears.  Bradley, Drake, and Illinois State also competed in the event last week.  Behind a team-best final-round 74 from Avalon Woodward, and a tournament 219 from Ali Schrock, the Redbirds finished 11th overall.  Bradley freshman Allison Pacocha led the Braves for the first time during her collegiate career, tallying a three-round total of 227 to finish 28th overall.  The rookie carded a season-low 73 during the second around, sandwiched around a pair of 77s in round one and three to lead BU. And 2022 MVC medalist Kristen Giles of Drake (80-76-74-230) got better each day with Drake's lowest score of the third round.

Four MVC programs (UIC, Evansville, Indiana State, Valpo) competed at the Butler Fall Invitational.  UIC's Dasa Urbankova finished tied for second on the individual leaderboard.  As a team, the Flames maintained their third-place standing following the first two rounds of action, firing a 308 on the final day to finish third with a total score of 923. Entering the final round with a one-shot lead, Urbankova posted a round of 76 (+6) in the final round to finish tied for second individually with a three-round total of 71-76-71=223 (+13). Austin Peay's Taylor Dedmen fired the low round of the tournament Tuesday, carding a round of 69 (-1) to win the individual title. 

Evansville freshman Kate Petrova shot a 3-over 73 on the final day to help Evansville earn a 13th-place finish. Petrova's round on Tuesday was the lowest of the entire tournament for the Purple Aces.  Her 3-round total finished with a 234 to give her a tie for 21st.  Indiana State's Chelsea Morrow made the biggest leap for the Sycamores on the final day as the junior turned in the seventh-best score of the final round with a 73 (+3). She moved up 25 spots from where she started the day to sit tied for 21st overall in the field following her three-round score 234 (+24). ISU's Kristin Hobbs also improved on her second-round score to finish tied with Morrow in 21st. Valpo sophomore Anna Fay (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills) paced the team for the second straight day on Tuesday.  Fay posted Valpo’s best score, carding a 79, her second straight sub-80 round. She finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 236, tied for 32nd in a 93-player field.

Meanwhile, Anna Jensen of UNI tied for 8th at the Big O Classic in Omaha, Neb. Jensen led the Panthers carding 75-79-78 for a total score of 232. Jensen was also able to earn seven birdies throughout the three rounds. UNI placed 8th out of a nine-team field carding a total score of 980.
