MVC Announces Weekly Golf Awards

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include Drake's Nate Spear, Alejandra Ereno of UIC; Camille Rosier of UIC; and Caroline McConnell of Bradley.

MEN

Four MVC men's programs were in action this week.   Drake and UNI competed in the Grier Jones Shocker Invite in Newton, Kan., while Evansville and Murray State played in the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark.  Drake's Nate Spear recorded his best finish of the season tying for fifth place the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational.  He shot rounds of 72–68-71 for a 5-under, 211, while leading Drake to a fourth-place team finish in the 17-team field. 

WOMEN
A pair of UIC golfers tied for first in the Chicago State Windy City Classic.  Alejandra Ereno jumped three spots on the final day after shooting a 74 (+2). She and teammate Camille Rosier hepled UIC to a the team title in the eight-team field. Rosier shot a 71 (-1) in Round 1, UIC’s lowest round of event.  Rosier posted a two-round 71-78=149, while Ereno carded a steady 75-74=149.  Valparaiso was also in the field, and the Beacons were led by Taylor Skibinski, who finished fifth individually at 154.

Bradley's Caroline McConnell finished runner-up at the Coyote Creek Classic, hosted by Bradley at Coyote Creek Golf Club in Bartonville. The senior from South Fayette, Pa., finished one stroke over par at 217 (74-70-73) to lead the Braves. The finish is McConnell's best of the season and third in the top five in four tournaments. Bradley finished second out of six as a team at 889 (297-294-298).  Evansville's Kate Petrova tied for ninth while leading the Aces to a fourth-place finish.

Notably .. In the rain-shortened Toledo Rocket Classic .. Junior Sophia Florek led the way for Indiana State with a third-place finish, tied for the best finish of her career. She carded a 149 (+5, 76-73), which is tied for her lowest score through a two-round tournament at Indiana State. She parred 27-of-36 holes and recorded two birdies in the second round to jump up the leaderboard.
