MVC Announces Weekly Golf Honor

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week is Southern Illinois' Ben Keil.

Seven of the league's nine men's golf programs wrapped up their pre-championship schedules earlier this week.  Belmont, Illinois State, and Murray State participated in the Muirfield Shootout on Monday. Drake, UNI, Southern Illinois, and Valparaiso played in the Hawkeye Invitational in Riverside, Iowa.

Southern Illinois men's golf delivered one of its strongest performances of the season, finishing second at the Hawkeye Invitational at 7-under par in their final tune-up before next week's MVC Championship. Southern Illinois showcased impressive depth throughout the tournament, placing four golfers inside the top 13 individually. Leading the way was Ben Keil, who turned in a standout performance at 6-under par, (his lowest of the season) highlighted by a composed and confident approach all tournament. He finished third on the individual leaderboard (70-68-72=210). Iowa claimed team title honors at 851 (287-278-286) besting Southern Illinois by six shots. Drake placed fifth as a team.  The Bulldogs had four of its five competitors place inside the top-25 on the individual leaderboard. Nate Spear led the bunch tying for 16th with a final score of 218.  UNI's Tanner Dinnebier led the Panther Pack, finishing in a six-way tie for 28th place with a score of 223 (+7) |  Hawkeye Invitational Results

Behind rounds of 299 and 287, the Illinois State men's golf team closed its pre-Championship portion of the season, placing seventh in a strong field at the one-day Muirfield Shootout. TJ Barger and Francis Bautista each tied for 11th place in the field, finishing with a one-over 145, including a one-under par final round. Belmont's Chris Harpum was four over and tied for 21st to lead the Bruins, while Brock Montgomery topped Murray State with a 33rd-place finish (+6) |  Muirfield Shootout Results
