MVC Baseball Championship Game 5 - No. 2 Indiana State vs. No. 3 Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. - Behind masterful pitching from Jacob Hustedde and clutch hitting from Kainen Jorge, Murray State Baseball took down No. 2 seed Indiana State 3-2 in a high-tension, dramatic second game of action for the Racers in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Murray State (33-25, 15-9 MVC) moves to 2-0 in the MVC Tournament and will face No. 1 seed UIC at 11 a.m. Friday at Johnny Reagan Field at Taylor Family Park.

"For the people that have seen these two games," head coach Dan Skirka said, "you couldn't ask for a better environment. This is playoff baseball, it's electric, it's awesome."

Hustedde got the ball to start the game and dominated the Sycamore lineup, retiring the first 11 batters he faced. After surrendering the lead on a two-run homer, Hustedde locked Indiana State down for the rest of his outing.

The Junior right-hander Hustedde finished with a final line of 7 1/3 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight with just two walks, earning the win. He closed out his day by walking off the field to a standing ovation from Racer Nation.

"That moment with Hustedde coming off the field," Skirka said, "kind of got me a little bit. Just seeing the people at Johnny Reagan Field with what these players have built here. It's awesome. It was electric and Hustedde earned his moment; he was fantastic tonight."

Ben Rosin earned his fifth save of the year with 1 2/3 innings of relief, striking out three with one hit allowed. Rosin began his appearance by striking out a batter in a massive spot to strand a runner and get the crowd of 2,753 fans on their feet.

In the batter's box, Jorge provided all three runs for Murray State. In the top of the sixth, Jorge hit an RBI single to left center to cut the deficit to one. With two outs and two runners on base in the top of the eighth, Jorge delivered the necessary heroics to give the Racers the lead and end the day with a 3-2 instant classic win.

"There's been plenty of times this year where my team has picked me up when I'm in important situations with runners in scoring position," Jorge said. "I knew, at some point, it was going to be my time to come through big, and I was ready for the moment."

Murray State will look to build upon a four-game win streak Friday morning vs. UIC, with the winner advancing to the championship game.
