ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its men's and women's swimming and diving weekly honors on Wednesday. The UMass Minutemen swept the men's awards, while the Indiana State Sycamores swept the women's honors.
Swimmer of the Week: Sammy Quigg | Senior | Merritt Island, Fla.
Sammy Quigg and the Minutemen won, 189-110, over Fairfield on Saturday, as Quigg earned three individual gold medals. In the 200 freestyle, he swam a season-best time of 1:38.41 to place first, before sitting atop the podium in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.59. His third gold medal came in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.93. In the relay events, Quigg anchored the 400 freestyle relay team that broke a pool record with a time of 3:00.51 to take first-place.
Diver of the Week: Alex Kreidler | Sophomore | Arvada, Colo.
As the Minutemen defeated Fairfield, 189-110, on Saturday, Alex Kreidler picked up two gold medals on the afternoon. Kreidler was first in the one-meter dive with a six-dive total of 334.65, before placing first in the three-meter dive with a personal-best score of 391.65. His three-meter total placed him second all-time in program history.
Freshman of the Week: Hudson Bawduniak | Freshman | Waco, Texas
With the Minutemen winning, 189-110, over Fairfield, Hudson Bawduniak secured two individual wins. Bawduniak swam into first with a time of 54.38 in the 100 breaststroke, which marked the top all-time program record, a pool record and a new freshman record. In the 100 butterfly, he finished first with a time 49.32. During the relay events, he aided the 200 medley relay team to a first-place finish with atom of 1:31.21. He also took fifth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.63.
Swimmer & Freshman of the Week: Grace Cummings | Freshman | Kent, England
Grace Cummings continues to set new marks in the Indiana State swimming and diving annals as the freshman became the first Sycamore in program history to win an event at the Tim Welsh Classic hosted this past weekend by Notre Dame. Cummings claimed both the 500-yard and 1000-yard Freestyle event wins on the meet, and then added a third-place result in the 200-yard Freestyle to highlight the most points Indiana State has scored at the Tim Welsh Classic (644.5) in program history. Cummings topped the field in the 500-yard Freestyle on Friday morning as the freshman touched the wall in 4:47.90 to win the event over Notre Dame’s Emily Hamill (4:48.51). Cummings followed up by taking nearly two seconds off her seed time in the 200-yard Freestyle as she went 1:50.34 to tie for third in the event. She finished her individual events with the 1000-yard Freestyle where she was just .6 off the MVC record set by Claire Parsons last season, touching the wall in 9:46.97 to win the event by nearly 16 seconds. She highlighted her relay appearances helping Indiana State finish third in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay with her leg of 1:50.90 helping pace the Sycamores to a 7:22.60, third all-time on the Indiana State All-Time Performance List.
Diver of the Week: Jecza Lopez | Junior | Guadalajara, Mexico
Jecza Lopez was the top Indiana State diver at the Tim Welsh Classic, posting sixth-place results in both the 1M and 3M Springboard diving events. Lopez scored 284.40 in the 1M finals over her six dives, while the junior went 277.00 in the 3M finals to wrap up the weekend’s event.
