Player of the Week: Matt Schark, Southern Illinois
Pitcher of the Week: Tanner Perry, Illinois State

19694
Southern Illinois’ Matt Schark is this week’s MVC Player of the Week. Schark is the fourth Saluki to earn a weekly honor this season.

Schark put together a week to remember for Southern Illinois as he cemented himself in the Saluki record book. The St. Charles, Missouri, native recorded five home runs during a weekend series against Evansville with one homer on Friday, three on Saturday, and one more on Sunday as he helped the Salukis to a series win.

Schark’s home run on Sunday put him at the top of the single-season home run list as he blasted his 20th of the season. Two at-bats later, Schark tied the single-season RBI mark in program history after driving in his 70th run of the year.

He finished the week batting .500 (8-16), slugging 1.500, and with a .500 on-base percentage. In total, he drove in 11 runs, scored seven times, and drew one walk as SIU went 3-1 on the week.

Illinois State’s Tanner Perry is this week’s MVC Pitcher of the Week. He is the second Redbird hurler to receive a weekly honor this season.

Perry got the start on Senior Day in the series finale versus UIC on Sunday, tossing a nine-inning two-hit shutout to secure the series for Illinois State over the Flames.

The O’Fallon, Missouri, native is the first Redbird pitcher with a nine-inning complete game shutout since March 2024 (Tyrelle Chadwick). Additionally, he now has two nine-inning complete games, achieving the feat earlier this season against Western Illinois on March 15. He is just the third pitcher in The Valley with two nine-inning complete games, ranking eighth nationally.

Perryscattered just two hits and gave up just two walks while striking out seven batters. Perry faced the minimum in five of the nine innings of work and now sits with 69 strikeouts, including 5+ in five outings against MVC competition.
