Indoor Track and Field Notebook (Feb.11)

ST. LOUIS - The Valley was represented at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, Friday Knight Lights, Keck Select, UAB Vulcan Invitational, Missouri Invitational, Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational, Blue Demon Alumni Classic, UAB Green and Gold Invite, Iowa State Classic. After three weeks of the #EventSquad rankings by the USTFCCCA, The Valley currently has 49 women's event squads and 40 men's events squads ranked in the top 75 of the nation. The Valley's top women's track squad is the 5,000m squad from Indiana State at 17th in the rankings and the top women's field squad is the Northern Iowa High Jump squad at 10th in the rankings. For the men the top track squad is Indiana State's 60m crew, ranking 10th in the nation. The top field squads in The Valley are tied in Northern Iowa's Shot Put squad and Heptathlon squad both ranking fifth.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Casey Hood Jr., Indiana State
At the DePaul Alumni Classic, Hood took first in the 60m with a tied personal-best time of 6.61 for the second fastest time in The Valley behind teammate Terrance O'Bannon. The sophomore also finished the prelims with a time of 6.65 and a finals time of 6.61 in the finals. Hood currently ranks third in Indiana State program history, second in the Great Lakes Region, and is tied 21st in the NCAA.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Carter Morton, Northern Iowa
At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, Morton totaled a new personal best point total in the men's Heptathlon of 5807 points. Morton set a new personal best time in the 1000m witha time of 2:46.27 catepolting him to a third place overall finish. Morton currently leads The Valley in the heptathlon and is 5 points shy of the MVC Championship record set in 2017 and 99 points shy of the MVC All-Time record set in 2008. Morton is third in the midwest region and eighth in the NCAA.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Emilie Meyer, Drake
At the Iowa State Classic, Emilie Meyer earned an individual win in the women's 800m with a solid showing of 2:09.45. Meyer also teamed up with Savannah Ming, Briandrias Rhodes, and Madison Bunton to capture first place in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.06. Meyer currently 14th in the Midwest Region and third in the MVC in the 800m.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Katie Fare, Northern Iowa
At the Iowa State Classic, Fare took first in the women's shot put with a mark of 16.60m after throwing the weight at the Friday Knight Lights Indoor Meet the night prior were she marked a distance of 17.63. Fare currently leads The Valley with her 17.09m throw set in December for a 7th place midwest ranking and is currently 20th in the NCAA.
