EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 3-seeded Evansville Purple Aces used 10 extra-base hits to top the No. 5 UIC Flames, 12-1, in seven innings to start day four of the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship on Friday.
 
CONFERENCE NOTES
  • Evansville is the only remaining team in the tournament that is undefeated with two victories.
  • The game marked the fifth run-rule of the 2024 championship.
  • The Purple Aces will have a rematch with No. 4 Illinois State on Saturday.
  • UIC is set to turn around and face No. 1 Indiana State in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday.
  • Evansville tied the single-game tournament record with eight doubles. The Purple Aces held the record at eight, set back in 1996 and matched by UE in 2012.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Back-to-back two-out doubles by Brendan Hord and Cal McGinnis broke open scoring to help the Aces jump on the board in the second.
  • After a pair of scoreless innings, Evansville added another run in the fifth with two more doubles, including McGinnis’ second of the game, to hold a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Flames responded in the top of the sixth as a one-out single from Zane Zielinski, followed by an RBI double from Kendal Ewell, helped UIC cut its deficit in half.
  • Evansville’s sixth double of the game in the home half of the sixth gave them 142 for the season, which is tied for the third-most in NCAA Division I. The Purple Aces continued to charge ahead with no outs as Hord left the yard to give Evansville a 7-1 cushion. Another long ball, this time by Harrison Taubert, extended UE’s lead to eight.
  • The Aces kept their foot on the gas with their seventh double of the game, jumping up to a tie for second in the country in the category, before finishing the inning with 10 total runs to take a commanding 12-1 lead over UIC.
  • Evansville’s Jace Kressin came out the close the game, as the Flames went down in order to send them to an elimination game against top-seeded Indiana State.
