Deanna Price ('16) is bringing home a bronze medal after finishing third in the women's hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday night. University of Northern Iowa track and field alumni Brandon Carnes ('17) brings home a gold medal after aiding to the men's 4x100m victory in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday afternoon.
Price posted a mark of 75.41m in the fifth round of the hammer throw, leading to the third-place finish and bronze medal-winning performance. The former Saluki was joined on the podium by fellow American Janee Kassanavoid, who finished second and won a silver medal in the event.
Four years ago, Price took home a gold medal after finishing first at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, which took place in Doha, Qatar.
At Southern Illinois, Price was a two-time NCAA champion in the hammer throw, an MVC champion in the hammer throw, weight throw, and shot put, and was a five-time All-American. The Olympian was with the Salukis from 2011 to 2016.
Price was inducted into the Saluki Hall of Fame in 2021.

Brandon Carnes ('17) brings home a gold medal after aiding to the men's 4x100m victory in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday afternoon. Carnes was the third leg of the relay that finished with a combined time of 37.38, now leading the World with this time. Carnes was announced to the pool of runners attending the World Championship in late June after qualifying at the US Championships and was declared to race in the relay the week of competition.
As a Panther, Carnes was a 16-time Missouri Valley Conference Champion, winning four 60m indoor title, four 200m indoor titles, four 100m outdoor titles, and four 200m outdoor titles. Carnes also owned 5 MVC records (3 outdoor, 2 indoor) for his performances in during his colliegate stint, however his two MVC indoor records were reset in the 2023 MVC Championship with Indiana State's JaVaughn Moore's time in the 60m of 5.56 seconds, Moore also ties Carnes 100m all-time record. Carnes also held the 100m-dash MVC Championship record, but was reset in the 2023 Outdoor Championship by UNI's Isaiah Trousil with a time of 10.07.
Carnes has now earned the World Champions honors, is the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Champion, and is a NACAC Championships Bronze medallist.
