Eugene, OR- Nine Missouri Valley Conference Student-Athletes compete in the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oregon July 6

Drake – Isaac Basten, the NCAA indoor mile runner-up, gears up to race in the 1500m. After a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in the 1500m, Basten clocked a time of 3:43.33. The Bulldog’s best time this season and overall personal best in the 1500m was clocked at Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 3:36.99. Basten claimed the MVC outdoor title in the 1500m along with setting the MVC All-Time record in the 1500m to add to his impressive MVC resume. Basten will run on Thursday at 7:01p.m. PDT.
Illinois State- Linsey Miller will race in the Women’s U20 100m-dash, the Redbird freshman aided the 4x100m relay in the 2023 outdoor season with a notable second place finish at the Drake Relays. Miller also tallied a time of 11.91
(-2.7) at the Drake Relays to finish 9
th. Miller also aided the Redbird 4x100m relay to an 18
th place finish at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Miller will run on Saturday at 1:53pm PDT.
Jaylin Holmes will race in the Men's U20 400m Hurdles, Holmes ran at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California in the 400m hurdles while also winning in the 400m hurdles at the 2023 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship with a personal-best and a time of 51.91 putting him fifth all-time in that event. Holmes will run at 3:24pm PDT on Saturday.
Indiana State - Four current Indiana State track and field student-athletes, are set to compete in high-level meets both in the United States and abroad over the course of the next week.
Ryann Porter will compete at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, while Niesha Anderson, Josie Hapack and Terrance O'Bannon will take part in the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships, also in Eugene.
Championship Qualifiers
The USATF U20 Outdoor Championships serves as a selection event for the 2023 Pan-Am U20 Championships in Puerto Rico. Anderson, Hapack and O'Bannon can qualify for the event by placing either first or second in their respective events at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. If any of them place third, they will serve as an alternate for the 2023 Pan-Am U20 Championships.
The USATF Outdoor Championships serves as a selection event for the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships in Costa Rica and the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Hungary. There is also the potential for results at the USATF Outdoor Championships to serve as selection criteria for the 2023 Pan-Am Games in Chile. Porter can qualify for the Pan-Am Games with a top-two finish and the World Athletics Championships with a top-three finish. A top-two finish for Porter would also qualify her for the NACAC U23 Championships. Placing third would earn alternate spots at the NACAC U23 Championships and the Pan-Am Games, while a fourth-place finish would earn an alternate spot at the World Athletics Championships.
Porter will compete 6pm on Thursday, Hoapack will compete Friday at 6:45pm, O'Bannon will compete at 2:14 on Saturday, and Anderson will compete at 3:00pm on Saturday all times in PDT.
Southern Illinois – Freshman Xavier Preston is set to race in the U20 division’s 100m and 200m dash. Preston debuted in The Valley with a best time of 10.40 in 100m set at the Gibson Invitational earlier this season. In the 200m, the freshman claimed the indoor MVC title with a time of 21.06 with an outdoor time of 20.98
(2.8) set at the USF Bulls Invitational earlier this season. Preston will compete at 2:14pm on Saturday for the 100m and at 2:26pm on Sunday for the 200m.
Jadon Robertson is set to compete in his first decathlon in the U20 division. While this is the first time Roberts competes in the decathlon, he tallied a total of 18.5 points in the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships competing in the 110 hurdles, javelin, long jump, and high jump finishing in the top 6 in each event. The Saluki set a time of 14.24 in the 110 hurdles, 49.08m in the javelin, 7.18m in the long jump, and 2.06m in the high jump. Robertson will begin competition at 10:05pm PDT in the 100m on Saturday.
