MVC Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Apr. 5)

St. Louis – The Missouri Valley Conference names track and field athletes of the week honors. This week’s athletes of the week are Iyanla Hunter of Indiana State, Rachel Hagans of Murray State, Wyatt Puff of Indiana State, and Isaiah Trousil of Northern Iowa.
 
Iyanla Hunter, Sr., Indiana State [Indianapolis, Ind.]
Hunter placed first in her lone individual event of the Pacesetter Sports Invitational, running a wind-aided time of 24.61 (w: +2.4) to place first by one-hundredth of a second. She also ran the anchor leg of Indiana State’s 4x400m B relay team, running a split under 55 seconds that ended up being the fastest 400 split in the field. Hunter’s 200m time ranks second in the MVC and 23rd in the Great Lakes region. She is also a part of the Sycamores’ 4x400m relay team that ranks first in the MVC and seventh in the Great Lakes region.
 
Honorable Mention – Teliyah James, Murray State – leads the MVC in the 100m dash with a time of 11.54 seconds.
 
Rachel Hagans, Gr. Murray State [Tampa, Fla.]
Hagans won the long jump in a field of 25 with a 6.43m mark at the Joey Haines Invite. She claimed the win by over a foot as runner up marked a time of 6.12m. Hagans also aided in the Racer’s 4x100m relay win with a time of 46.19 seconds. Murray State resides second in the Valley in the 4x100m Relay with this time. The Graduate Student leads the MVC performance list in the Long Jump by .40m from second. Hagans ranks fifth nationally and fourth in the East Qualifying Region.
 
Honorable Mention – Brooklyn Giertz, Indiana State – Ranks second in the MVC in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.82m and second in the Javelin with a distance of 44.23m.
 
Wyatt Puff, Throws, Jr., Indiana State [Fishers, Ind.]
Puff had a strong showing at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational, breaking the facility record in the discus and earning top-two finishes in both events he competed in. His top mark in the discus of 56.53m (185-05) won the event and also ranks second in school history, in addition to breaking the Gibson Track and Field Complex record. Puff also placed second in the shot put, with his top mark of 17.99m (59-00.25) also being the second-best mark of his career in the event, indoor or outdoor. His marks from this weekend’s meet rank first in the MVC in both events. Additionally, Puff ranks second in the Great Lakes region, 14th in NCAA East Region qualifying and 29th in the nation in the discus, and seventh in the Great Lakes region, 17th in NCAA East Region qualifying and 44th in the nation in the shot put.
 
Honorable Mention – Anthony Barmes, Drake – won the Hammer throw at the Wartburg Select with a toss of 67.29m ranking 13th in the Nation and 1st in the Valley.
 
Isaiah Trousil, Sr., UNI [West Burlington, IA]
UNI sprinter, Isaiah Trousil took home gold in the men's 100-meter dash at the 95th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Trousil, who was an All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) athlete last spring and competed as an unattached athlete during the indoor season, ran a 10.04 second mark in Friday's preliminary heats with a 4.3 meter per second wind at his back, finishing in second place. He clocked a 10.16 in Saturday's final. The mark is a new career-best for Trousil by 0.07 seconds, ranks first in the MVC and is the seventh fastest time in the West Qualifying division and 13th nation early into the outdoor season.
 
Honorable Mention – JaVaughn Moore, Indiana State – Took first in the 200m dash, and aided in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays that also took first at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational.
