St. Louis – The Missouri Valley Conference names track and field athletes of the week honors. This week’s athletes of the week are Anthony Barmes of Drake, Teliyah James of Murray State, JaVaughn Moore of Indiana State, and Katie Fare of Northern Iowa.
Track Athlete
Teliyah James, Jr., Murry State [Norristown, Penn.]
James placed fourth in a field of 70 in the 200m dash at the Music City Indoor Challenge. James finished with a season's best time of 24.26 seconds at the Music City Indoor Challenge. James also placed fourth in the 60m-dash with a career-best time of 7.50 seconds. James moved up to second in the MVC performance list in the 200m dash according to TFRRS.

Leah Thames, Bradley - Broke school records in the 200m and 60m with a times of 29.96 and 7.80, respectively.
Field Athlete
Katie Fare, Jr., Northern Iowa [Rockford Ill.]
Fare competed at the South Dakora State Indoor Classic women's shot put. The junior won the event with a career-best toss of 16.68m (54 ft., 8.75 in.). With this mark Fare broke her former second longest shot put throw in UNI history by 6.75 inches. She also leads the Panthers in their 11th place event ranking in the Shot Put this week from USTFCCCA. At #11 the Panthers are the highest ranking event in the Valley this week, on the women's side, followed by Bradley's 800m squad at #14 in the nation. Fare continues to hold her first place ranking the Valley, and 28th in the nation.

Brooklyn Giertz, Indiana State - Career-best pole vault mark of 3.97m at the Music City Challenge.
Track Athlete of the Week
JaVaughn Moore, 5th, Indiana State [Marietta, Ga.]
Moore had a meet to remember at the Music City Challenge, breaking the school record in the 60m while coming one-hundredth of a second shy of the school record in the 200m. He ran sub-6.7 times in the 60m in the prelims (6.69), semifinals (6.64) and finals (6.62), with the finals time of 6.62 setting the school record. Moore opened his weekend in dominant fashion in the 200m, with his time of 21.08 moving him to second in program history, just one-hundredth of a second off the school record. He owns the top marks in the MVC in both events following last weekend’s proceedings, and also ranks second in the Great Lakes region and 16th in the nation in the 60m, and second in the Great Lakes region in the 200m.

Isaac Basten, Drake - set new personal best and beat his own MVC All-time record in the mile with a time of 3:54.89.
Field Athlete of the Week
Anthony Barmes, So., Drake [Auckland, New Zealand]
Anthony Barmes set his personal record in the weight throw at 20.55m (67’5.25”) to win the men’s weight throw at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic on Saturday. Barmes ranks second in Drake men’s track & field history in the event. The throw of 20.55m (67’5.25”) is the farthest weight throw from a Drake Bulldog in 10 years. That throw currently leads the MVC this season, is ranked seventh in the Midwest region so far this year, and 39th in NCAA.

William Staggs, Indiana State - Took second in the pole vault with a height of 5.23m.
The 2023 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held on Febuary 26-27th, 2023 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center in Chicago, Illinois.
