Ten Student-Athletes to Represent The Valley at Track & Field Nationals

Ten student-athletes will represent the Missouri Valley Conference at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon June 8-11. The group is made up of two track and eight field competitors.

Drake

Drake men's hammer thrower Anthony Barmes broke his own school record in the NCAA Division I Track & Field West Preliminary at John McDonnell Field with a hammer throw of 220-1 (67.09m).

Isaac Basten ran a 1500m run time of 3:42.90 to advance to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships.

Illinois State
Redshirt senior Logan Calvin punched his ticket to the NCAA Track and Field Championships with an eighth-place finish in the men's shot put. Calvin tossed 19.63m (64-5) at the West Prelims to advance.

Indiana State
Sophomore Ryann Porter secured a place in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, earning the final spot in the women's triple jump. Porter, who will be making her second appearance in the championships, had a top mark of 12.90m (42-04.00) in the event.
 
Northern Iowa

Darius King reset his own shot put record to  advance to the 2022 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. In his opening throw of the day, King threw 20.33 meters (66 feet, 8.5 inches), breaking his own outdoor record of 20.26 meters (66-5.75).

Tom Yezek opened the day at the 2022 West Preliminary Rounds with a discus throw of 55.32 meters (181 feet, 6 inches) to take 11th. Yezek was the final thrower of the event and had secured his spot at the NCAA Championships at No. 12 when he tossed out his best throw of the day to move up a spot and earn an NCAA berth.

Southern Illinois

Elisia Lancaster qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career after placing 9th in the hammer throw.  Her top mark came on her second throw, which measured in at 65.38m (214' 6"). 

Shauniece O'Neal finished once spot behind her teammate in 10th.  She makes her third trip to nationals after marking at 65.34m (214' 4").

A'veun Moore-Jones will make her return to Eugene after finishing fourth in the shot put.  She recorded a new outdoor personal best mark of 17.33m (56' 10.25") on her second heave of the event.  That improves on her previous fourth best mark in SIU history.

Kayla Schiera rounded out the Saluki qualifiers with her performance in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase. Schiera posted a time of 10:07.62, finishing 11th overall in the field at the preliminary meet.
