MVC Announces Weekly Golf Honors (April 6)

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include Devin Johnson of Loyola and Anna Jensen of UNI.

MEN'S GOLF
Loyola graduate student Devin Johnson (Geneva, Ill.) finished just two strokes off the individual lead as the Ramblers earned a share of seventh place at the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Wash.  After seeing the first two rounds of the event washed away due to inclement weather, Johnson carded an even-par 71 during final-round play at historic Chambers Bay Golf Course, birdying three of his last four holes.  The Geneva, Ill., native enters the final event of Loyola's regular season slate with a team-low 72.7 stroke average across 20 rounds of play.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Earlier this week, four MVC women's teams (Evansville, Indiana State, UNI, Valparaiso) competed at the Indiana State Invitational, played at the par-72, 6041-yard Country Club of Terre Haute in Terre Haute, Ind.

It was Jensen's highest finish in her college career.  Green Bay took top honors in the team and individual standings.  The Phoenix scored a 307 on Monday to finish with a 608. Isabella Maleki of Green Bay was the tournament medalist.

Evansville was the highest-finishing team at the event, taking second place behind Green Bay.  Earning the highest individual finish for the Aces was Magdalena Borisova. Scoring her first top-five finish, the freshman carded a 78 in the final 18 holes to complete the tournament with a 152.  Her score was tied for fourth, just two strokes off the winning score.

Pacing the Sycamores during their first home event in nearly two seasons was sophomore Chelsea Morrow (79-75=154) who finished 10-over par. A Fishers, Ind., native, Morrow posted a first-round score of 79 to finish seven-over-par before jumping seven spots in the final round after shooting just three-over on the par-72 course. The ninth-place finish was the best of the season for Morrow as she helped the Sycamores finish third as a squad.

Valpo senior Morgan Kier (Brownsburg, Ind. / Brownsburg) turned in the best round of her collegiate career on Monday, leading Valparaiso as she cracked the top-20 on the player leaderboard, finishing the event at t-17 after carding a 158 over 36 holes. Her tournament was highlighted by her performance in Monday’s round, a 76 (+4) to pace the team. Kier bettered her previous career low of 79 by three strokes.
