MVC Announces Weekly Swimming & Diving Honors (Oct. 12)

This week's Missouri Valley Conference swimmer of the week is Annya Grom of Little Rock, the diver of the week is Eva Reyes of Illinois State and the freshman of the week is Giulia Basco of Illinois State.

Swimmer:
Annya Grom, Sr., Little Rock 

Grom owns the top time in the conference in the 100 freestyle by nearly a full second, touching the wall with a time of 51.20 against North Florida. In addition, she has posted the second-fastest time in the conference in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.77, less than a tenth of a second behind first. Along with the 100 free, she also won the 100 back against North Florida with a time of 58.37. She has not finished lower than 2nd overall in any events, individual or relay, in any of the 3 meets Little Rock has competed in so far this year. She helped Little Rock sweep all four relays (400 medley, 200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free relays) against North Florida as the anchor leg, helping the Trojans turn in the top time in the conference in the 200 free relay so far this year.

Diver:
Eva Reyes, So., Illinois State

Reyes opened the 2022-2023 slate with a 1M and 3M sweep Oct. 8 against McKendree. The defending MVC 1M Dive champion posted a 288.9 in that event, while recording a score of 285.9 in the 3M dive for a pair of wins.

Freshman:
Giulia Basco, Fr., Illinois State

Basco posted a strong collegiate debut Oct. 8 vs McKendree as she contributed to three wins for Illinois State against the Bearcats. Basco opened the meet as the third leg in Illinois State’s 400-yard medley relay win. She followed that up with victories in both butterfly events as she posted a 2:07.37 in the 200 and 58.22 in the 100.
