Chicago Fire Select Grant Stoneman in 2019 MLS SuperDraft

CHICAGO (January 14, 2019) - Loyola men's soccer's Grant Stoneman was selected by the Chicago Fire in the 3rd round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Monday, January 14. Stoneman is the second Rambler draft pick in the program's history, marking the second consecutive year a Rambler has been selected.

The Fire made Stoneman the 55th overall selection. The St. Charles, Ill. native joined Elliot Collier as the two Ramblers to be drafted by an MLS team in the SuperDraft.

Stoneman's collegiate resume includes being named a 2016 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, and a two time United Soccer Coaches First Team All-West Region selection (2016, 2018). He was also tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. The defender is the fifth player in program history to take home All-Region honors two separate seasons.

Named a team captain for 2018, Stoneman logged 1508 minutes to lead all Rambler defenders, and contributed to eight shutouts over the course of his senior season. He was also a force on the offensive side of the pitch, checking in second in goals (3) and tied for second in points (7) among team ranks.
