MVC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 6 – No. 2 DBU 10, No. 6 ILLINOIS STATE 6
DALLAS, TEXAS – No. 2 DBU took down No. 6 Illinois State, 10-6, thanks to 20 hits. The Patriots remain alive and await the loser of the Valparaiso/Bradley game, while Illinois State has been eliminated from the tournament.
Devlin Granberg's solo home run to lead off the game put the Patriots (38-18) on top early. The Redbirds (22-30) took the lead back with a two-run second inning, but DBU answered with a two-run homer by Jimmy Glowenke in the third. Illinois State retaliated with a two-run blast in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.
Garrett Wolforth's fourth-inning home run tied the game at 4-4. An inning later, an RBI groundout by Matt Duce put DBU on top for the final time, and an RBI single by Wolforth extended the lead.
Wolforth, who was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, recorded his first four-hit day of the season. MD Johnson's 6.1 innings pitched marked his longest outing since March 23 at Sam Houston State.
Luke Bandy executed a squeeze bunt in the seventh to start a three-run rally, followed by an RBI infield single by Granberg and Jameson Hannah's RBI double. A solo home run and an RBI double helped Illinois State cut into the lead, but MacGregor Hines finished the game by retiring all four batters he faced to earn his sixth save of the year.
DBU improved to 37-18 with the victory, while Illinois State ends its season at 22-30.
