2012 State Farm MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship

The Indiana State men and Wichita State women came away with the team championship at the 2012 State Farm MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.  The Sycamore men won by 12.5 points, edging out Wichita State, while the Shocker women beat out Illinois State by over 40 points.

The Indiana State men win their eighth overall outdoor championship, while Wichita State (women) wins its sixth overall championship in the outdoor meet.

The 2012 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kan.  Wichita State will serve as host of the Championship that will start on May 11 and conclude on May 13. The Indiana State men and Wichita State women won the outdoor event in 2011.

 Results

Wichita State senior Aaron Young turned in a season-best time of 10.91 to take the first event of the decathlon, while Indiana State junior Robert Webb finished second (11.17). Shocker teammate Tobias Boese was third, clocking a career-best time of 11.24.

Indiana State's Robert Wood took first in the long jump with a season best leap of 7.01m, while Shocker Aaron Young finished second with a career-best jump of 6.93m.  UNI's Daniel Gooris came in third with a leap of 6.68m.

UNI's Daniel Gooris took top honors in the shot put portion of the decathlon with a toss of 13.47m. His Panther teammate Ben Lindaman finished tied for second (13.18m) with Wichita State's Aaron Young (13.18m).

Wichita State's Mac Griffith took home top honors in the decathlon high jump event with a career-best jump of 2.02m (6' 7.5").  UNI's Daniel Gooris (1.96m) and Indiana State's Robert Webb (1.93m) finished second and third, respectively.

Wichita State took the top two spots in the 400-meter dash. Aaron Young  took top honors for the second time today in the 400-meter dash portion of the decathlon, notching a time of 49.62. Shocker junior Justin Hickey came in second (49.66), while UNI's Daniel Gooris was third finishing in a career-best time of 50.16.

UNI's Paige Knodle led the pack in the first event in the heptathlon, clocking in with a time of 13.98 in the 100m hurdles.  Wichita State's Tanya Friesen took second (14.04), while Indiana State sophomore Kelly Steffen finished third with a career-best 14.39.

 Results

Tanya Friesen of Wichita State won won the high jump portion of the heptathlon after clearing 1.66m.  Drake's Briana Isom Brummer was second, clearing 1.63m, while Indiana State's Kelly Steffen and UNI's Paige Knodle tied for third after topping 1.60m.

Wichita State swept the top three positions in the shot put portion of the heptathlon, as Jaden Prewitt took top honors with a season-best toss of 11.41m, while Chinwe Ekweariri finished second (10.92m) and Jaclyn Abrahamian was third (10.83m).

 Results

Paige Knodle of UNI won her second event of the day with the fastest 200-meter time, a career-best 24.97.  Tanya Friesen of Wichita State came in a close second finishing in 25.10, while her Shocker teammate Jaclyn Abrahamian finished in third-place with her time of 26.21.

 Results
Southern Illinois’ Jeneva McCall set a new Missouri Valley Conference outdoor championship record in the women’s hammer throw, taking home the gold medal with a toss of 68.82m (225' 09"), becoming the fifth two-time winner of the women's outdoor hammer throw. Illinois State junior Brittany Smith finished second with a career-best 67.91m, while SIU's Kim Fortney came in third with a throw of 59.40m.

 Results
Indiana State junior Brandon Pounds took home top honors in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 63.97m (209' 10").  UNI senior Tanner Hurt took second with a throw of 60.38m (198' 1"), while Illinois State junior Curtis Jensen was third with a career-best 60.25m (197' 8"). 
 Women's Javelin
 Results
Illinois State senior Leigh Petranoff took the javelin title for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the league's third-ever four-time champion. Petranoff won the event with a throw of 49.18m (161' 4"). Wichita State's Sarah Gilbert took second with a career-best toss of 41.65m, while Southern Illinois junior Mallory Dreyer finished third with a career-best launch of 39.45m.

Results

Wichita State junior Cassie Craig took the crown in the women's pole vault with a career-best clearance of 4.08m (13' 4.50"), becoming the league's second two-time champion in the event. UNI junior Jenna Wexter and Indiana State junior Richelle Kimble tied for second place with identical vaults of 3.98m (13' 0.75").

 Results
Illinois State junior Tim Glover, the reigning NCAA outdoor champion in the men's javelin throw, becomes the league's fifth three-time champion, tossing a mark of 77.58m (254' 6") to win the event. Wichita State senior Brett Trudo finished second with a season-best 72.27m, while Drake sophomore Phillip Beeler was third with a career-best toss of 63.58m.

 Results

Wichita State junior Aliphine Tuliamuk (34:53.20) set a new Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship record in the 10,000m, while her Shocker teammate Scarla Nero (36:03.28) finished second. Southern Illinois freshman Lacey Gibson was third with a time of 36:20.96.

 Results

Indiana State finished one-two in the men's 10,000-meter, as senior Craig Padgett aced out his teammate junior Albaro Escalera, clocking times of 31:23.53 and 31:24.46, respectively. Saluki senior Neal Anderson (31:33.01) finished third.

 110m Hurdles

 Results
Indiana State junior Robert Webb took the 110m hurdles portion of the decathlon, clocking a time of 15.09, while UNI junior Daniel Gooris finished second (15.26). Wichita State junior Mac Griffith finished third with a time of 15.33.

Daniel Gooris of UNI won the discus event of the men's decalthon registering a mark of 41.17m (135' 1"), while Shocker teammates Justin Hickey (37.62m) and Mac Griffith (36.46m) finished second and third, respectively.

UNI's Daniel Gooris won his second decathlon event of the day with a victory in the pole vault portion of the event, clearing 5.20m (17' 0.75").  Wichita State's Alex Freshour finished second after clearing 4.80m, while Redbird freshman Kevin Fisch was third (4.70m).

UNI's Ben Lindaman took the victory in the javelin throw portion of the event, tossing 56.59m (185' 8"). Wichita State's Alex Freshour finished second (56.17m), while Panther junior Daniel Gooris was third (54.45m).

Wichita State’s Justin Hickey crossed the finish line first for the 800-meter victory in the heptathlon, clocking a time of 4:26.65, while his Shocker teammate Alex Freshour finished second (4:31.832). UNI's Daniel Gooris came in third, crossing the line in 4:35.47.   
Decathlon Final Results

Daniel Gooris of UNI took home the gold medal in the men’s decathlon for the third straight season, becoming the fourth student-athlete to win the event three times at the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.  Gooris finished first in three of 10 events and either second or third in another six events, compiling a score of 7,608 points. Wichita State's Mac Griffith was in the top-three in three decathlon events and finished in second-place with a career-best total of 7,087 points. Shocker junior Justin Hickey came in third-place after finishing with a career-best 7,031 points.

Wichita State's Tanya Friesen won her second heptathlon event with a leap of 5.87m in the long jump portion of the event. Kelly Steffen of Indiana State finished second with a mark of 5.74m, while UNI freshman Paige Knodle was third with a jump of 5.46m.

UNI freshman Paige Knodle landed the top mark in the javelin throw, registering a career-best mark of 41.71m (136' 10"), while Shocker teammates Witney Sorell (38.71m) and Tanya Friesen (37.90m) finished second and third, respectively.

UNI's Paige Knodle notched the 800-meter victory of the heptathlon, clocking a time of 2:14.61. Wichita State junior Tanya Friesen (2:19.70) and Indiana State senior Patricia Merrion (2:21.97) were second and third, respectively, both clocking career-best times in the event. 
Heptathlon FinalResults  Tanya Friesen of Wichita State took home the gold medal in the women’s heptathlon, winning two of the seven events and finishing second or third in four others. Friesen notched a career-best score of 5,472 points. Paige Knodle of UNI won four events and finished in second-place with a career-best total of 5,392 points. Drake's Briana Isom-Brummer came in third-place after logging a total of 4,786 points.

Southern Illinois senior Jeneva McCall becomes the second-ever three-time winner in the women's shot put, taking the gold medal with a season-best launch of 17.89m (58' 8.50"), which currently ranks fourth in the nation. McCall's throw also sets a new Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship meet record. Illinois State junior Brittany Smith finished second (17.29m), while Indiana State junior Felisha Johnson was third (16.54m). 
 Men's High Jump
 Results
Indiana State junior Major Clay took the men's high jump title for the fourth straight year, this time with a height of 2.14m (7' 0.25"), becoming the first-ever four-time champion in the event. Sycamore freshman Jonathon Christensen finished second, clearing a career-best height of 2.11m, (6' 11"), while Wichita State junior Brandon Childs was third (2.08m, 6' 9.75").

 Results
Missouri State junior Kimsue Grant took home the gold medal in the women's long jump, winning the event with a career-best leap of 6.33m (20' 9.25"). SIU's Malaikah Love, last year's champion, finished second (6.16m), while Wichita State's Tanya Friesen was third (5.86m).
 Men's Shot Put
 Results
Reigning champion Curtis Jensen of Illinois State tossed a career-best 18.74m (61' 5.75"), to take top honors in the men's shot put for the second straight year. UNI senior Justin Romero finished second (17.84m), while his Panther teammate Jordan Williams was third (17.32m). 
 Women's High
 Jump

 Results
Southern Illinois sophomore Kenya Culmer cleared the winning height of 1.81m (5’ 11.25”) to take home top honors in the women’s high jump, while Wichita State sophomore J'Lynn Ledesma finished second (1.78m).  Illinois State senior Becky Anderson finished third, clearing a height of 1.75m. All three medalists registered career highs today.

Drake junior Dan Karys took home top honors in the men's long jump, turning in a winning leap of 7.34m (24' 1"). Wichita State sophomore Austin Bahner finished second (7.31m), while SIU junior Douglas Palacious was third (7.21m).

Illinois State sophomore Kristen Zillmer kicked in a win in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line first with a time of 10:35.82, edging out her teammate Elise Sigg who turned in a time of 10:40.45.  Indiana State junior Kalli Dalton took third with a time of 10:47.31.

Wichita State junior Tomas Cotter edged out last year's champion, Indiana State junior Dustin Betz, to take the victory in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Cotter clocked a time of 9:00.74, while Betz crossed the finish line in 9:04.60. Southern Illinois junior Lucas Cherry finished third with a career-best time of 9:06.94.

 Results
SIU senior Cody Doerflein cleared 5.35m (17’ 6.50”), defeating UNI's Sam Kranz, last year's champion, who topped 5.25m. Doerflein was also the champion in 2010. UNI junior Daniel Gooris finished third with a height of 5.15m.      
 Women's Discus
 Results
Southern Illinois senior Jeneva McCall defended her title in the women's discus with a toss of 55.98m (183' 8"), which currently ranks fifth in the nation. McCall becomes the league's fourth three-time winner of the event. Illinois State junior Brittany Smith finished second (53.75m), while Indiana State junior Felisha Johnson was third with a career-best toss of 51.90m.

 Results
Southern Illinois junior Malaikah Love defended her title of the triple jump with a career-best leap of 13.16m (43' 2.25"), which currently ranks seventh in the nation. Missouri State’s Kimsue Grant was second (career-best 13.00m), while Wichita State’s Courtney Reinke finished third (12.45m).  
 Men's Discus
 Results 
UNI sophomore Jordan Williams won the men's discus title with a launch of 55.75m (182' 11"), while Indiana State junior Brandon Pounds (51.58m) and Illinois State junior Curtis Jensen (49.65m) finished second and third, respectively. 
 Men's Triple Jump
 Results
Southern Illinois junior Douglas Palacious won the men's triple jump championship with a leap of 15.77m (51' 9"). Indiana State senior Ernest Rollins was second with a leap of 15.76m, Illinoi State senior Tyler Knight finished third (15.30m).   
 Women's 4x100m
 Results

The Missouri State quartet of Pernell Joseph, Merica Moncherry, Kimsue Grant and Althia Maximilien edged out Illinois State in a tight finish to take the women's 4x100-meter relay title with a time of 44.90. The Redbirds turned in a time of 45.55, while Wichita State finished third (45.60).

The Panther team of Carlos Anderson, Derek Kramer, Wilmot Wellington and Jarred Herring clocked a time of 40.28, taking the men's 4x100-meter relay crown, just edging out Wichita State (40.79), while Indiana State took third (40.99).
 Women's 1,500m
 Results
Drake senior Kirsten Lake out-kicked Wichita State's Aliphine Tuliamuk on the final lap to take the women’s 1,500-meter crown. Lake clocked a career-best time of 4:23.75, which set a new Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor meet record, while Tuliamuk finished second at 4:26.74. Wichita State's Samantha Shukla was third with a time of 4:29.16, also a career-best.

Southern Illinois junior Zach Dahleen finished strong on the final lap to take the men's 1,500-meter title in a time of 3:49.46. Drake's Charles Lapham took second (3:51.59), while Wichita State junior Tomas Cotter finished third (3:51.88).

Indiana State's Greggmar Swift broke the tape in the men's 110-meter hurdles, clocking a winning time of 13.49, which currently ranks eighth in the nation. Shocker teammates Lawson Montgomery (13.67) and Todd McKown (13.71) finished second and third, respectively.

Illinois State junior Sade Sealy defended her title to take home top honors in the women's 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 53.96. Missouri State freshman Althia Maximilien was second (54.67), while Illinois State's Shandel Ellis was third (54.75).

Wichita State junior Dylan Hartnett defended his men’s outdoor 400-meter dash champion, winning the event with a time of 47.49. Indiana State sophomore Kevin Piraino was second (47.73), while Shocker freshman Alex Reed finished third (47.99).   
 Women's 100m - Final Results Missouri State sophomore Pernell Joseph crossed the finish line first to win the women's 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 11.61. Wichita State's Audacia Moore, last year's champion, finished second (11.65), while Missouri State freshman Merica Moncherry was third (11.85).

UNI senior Jarred Herring broke the tape in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.44, acing out Indiana State’s Justin Baxtron (10.49) and UNI’s Derek Kramer (10.61). Herring was also the 100-meter champion in 2009 and 2011.
 Women's  800m - Final Results Wichita State senior Danielle Chapman won the women's 800-meter run title, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:06.69, establishing a new MVC Outdoor Championships record in the event. Indiana State junior Leeann Michl finished second (2:07.07), while Southern Illinois' Mobola Rotibi was third with a time of 2:11.00.

Illinois State senior Matt Smoody edged out Aaron Stockstell of UNI for the men's 800-meter run outdoor championship, clocking a time of 1:51.63. Stockstell finished with a time of 1:514.70, while Wichita State's Jake Wike was third (1:52.23).

Wichita State sophomore Natalie Morerod took top honors in the women's 400-meter hurdles, clocking a winning time of 57.48, a career best. Indiana State's Stacia Weatherford (career-best 57.92) and Drake's Ari Curtis (58.38) finished second and third, respectively.

Drake senior Jon DeGrave took home top honors in the men's 400-meter hurdles, clocking a season-best time of 51.80, becoming the third three-time winner in the event. Indiana State sophomore Max Tuttle and UNI sophomore Ryan Newtoff finished secon and third, respectively, both personal bests.
 Women's 200m - Final Results Missouri State sophomore Pernell Joseph took home her second title of the day, this time in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 23.82. Her Bear teammate Merica Moncherry finished second (23.97), while Illinois State junior Sade Sealy was third (23.99).

Indiana State junior Justin Baxtron took home top honors in the men's 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line first in 21.42. Wichita State junior Dylan Hartnett was second (21.47) and Indiana State junior Andrew Stull finished third (21.64). 
 Women's 5,000m - Final Results Shocker junior Aliphine Tuliamuk crossed the finish line first in the women's 5,000-meter run in 16:48.57, winning her second event of the championship. Illinois State junior Elise Sigg was second (17:40.20), while Bradley's Sarah McMahon was third (17:41.21).

Indiana State senior Craig Padgett won his second event of the championship, this time in the men's 5,000-meter run (14:37.19), while Saluki Neal Anderson finished in a close second (14:39.60). UNI's Brett Egan was third (14.39.88).

The Indiana State quartet of Macey Black, Stacia Weatherford, Leeann Michl and Kaci Smith took home top honors in the women's 4x400-meter relay, clocking a time of 3:40.78. UNI (3:42.70) and Missouri State (3:42.71) finished second and third, respectively.

 Results 
The UNI foursome of Jesse Davenport, Sheldon Magee, Marshall Hill and Aaron Stockstell edged out Wichita State (3:11.25), clocking a time of 3:11.24.  Indiana State finished third with a time of 3:13.86.
