State Farm Indoor Track & Field (M/W)

Wichita State was crowned champion on the both the men's and women's side at the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  The women won their third-ever title and first since 2006, while the men won their first-ever championship.

Pentathlon

60m Hurdles

UNI's Olimpia Nowak edged out Wichita State's Tanya Friesen for the best time in the 60m hurdles, the first event of the championship and of the indoor pentathlon.  Nowak clocked in at 8.88 seconds, clipping Friesen by 0.02 in the timed section finals.  Drake's Ari Curtis finished third (9.02).

Heptathlon 60m

Wichita State's Chris Dickman ran a career-best 6.88 in the heptathlon 60m, registering the top time ahead of Indiana State's Steven Swinford (7.09) to grab the early lead in the event.  Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski (7.11) was third.

High Jump

UNI'a Olimpia Nowak won her second-straight even in the women's pentathlon, clearing 1.70m to win the high jump.  Wichita State's Tanya Friesen (1.64m) and Drake's Ari Curtis (1.61m) finished second and third, respectively.

Long Jump

Wichita State's Chris Dickman widened his lead after two events in the men's heptathlon, with a leap of 7.07m in the long jump, outdistancing teammate Justin Taylor (6.92m).  Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski finished third (6.85m).

Shot Put 

Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski took the top spot in the shot put portion of the men's heptathlon with a throw of 14.54m.  UNI's Daniel Gooris (13.82m) and Wichita State's Justin Taylor (12.96m) finished second and third, respectively.

Shot Put

Olimpia Nowak won her third straight women's pentathlon event, tossing 12.54m in the women's shot put.  Southern Illinois' Miana Lee finished second (10.59m), while Illinois State's Morgan Schaefer was third (10.30m).

High Jump 

Wichita State took two of the top three positions in the high jump portion of the men's heptathlon as Shocker Justin Taylor finished first after clearing 2.20m.  UNI's Daniel Gooris and Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski tied for second, leaping 1.99m.

Women's Weight Throw

For the sixth-straight year, Southern Illinois took home the top spot in the 20-pound weight throw, as Jeneva McCall threw an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 21.23m, which currently ranks third in the nation.  Indiana State's Kelsey Hanley finished second with a career-best toss of 20.96m, (fourth in the nation), while Sasha Leeth of SIU was third after a career-best throw of 20.78m (fifth in the nation).  Both Hanley and Leeth improved on their NCAA provisional qualifying standards from earlier this season. 

Pentathlon 

Long Jump 

Drake's Ari Curtis won her first event in the women's pentathlon with a leap of 5.67m in the long jump, beating out UNI's Olimpia Nowak (5.35m).  Panther teammate Lauren Lindaman finished third (5.29m).

800m 

Drake's Ari Curtis out-distanced UNI's Emily McCarthy in the 800-meter pentathlon event, clocking in at 2:18.48 and 2:19.14, respectively.  UNI's Olimpia Nowak finished third (2:23.54).  Full Pentathlon results detailed are below.  

Pentathlon - Final 

The top two finished in the women's pentathlon registered NCAA provisional qualifying performances, as UNI's Olimpia Nowak won three of the five events to total 3,920 points to finish first, while Drake's Ari Curtis won the final two events to finish second with 3,739 points.  Wichita State's Tanya Friesen tallied a season-best 3,433 points to finish third.

Men's Pole Vault 
 
Junior Sam Kranz of UNI won the sixth-consecutive pole vault championship for the Panthers, clearing 5.21m (17' 1") to win the event via judge's decision over Southern Illinois' Cody Doerflein (5.21m) and UNI's Daniel Gooris (5.21m).  Kranz, Doerflein and Gooris each   

Men's Weight Throw

Southern Illinois sophomore J.C. Lambert took home top honors in the men's 35-pound weight throw, tossing an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 20.26m (66' 5").  Indiana State teammates Lyle Nolcox (19.22m) and Joshua Williams (19.18m) finished second and third, respectively.   
Women's DMR   Illinois State's distance medley relay team of Aisha Praught, Michelle Brunk, Amanda Albrecht and Jess Husted clocked in at 11:50.58, a season-best time, to win the event.   Bradley finished second (11:55.21), while UNI was third (11:58.66).  
Men's Long Jump  Junior Tyler Simmons of Wichita State improved his NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the men's long jump with a career-best leap of 7.78m (25' 6.25").  Drake's Josh Bangert (7.26m) and Wichita State's Brandon Childs (7.25m) finished second and third, respectively.   
Men's DMR 
 
In a sprint to the finish line, UNI's Andrew Nelson edged out Southern Illinois' Zach Dahleen to win the MVC title in the men's DMR, running a season-best time of 10:02.24.  Aaron Vosberg, Jordan Cornilsen and Ryan Krogmann ran the first three legs for the Panthers.  Southern Illinois finished second (10:02.91), while Illinois State took third (10:04.80).

Women's 3000m - Final  Missouri State sophomore Terry Phillips turned in a career-best time of 9:35.40, to win the women's 3,000-meter run.  Junior Tonya Nero of Wichita State was second (9:40.18), while Missouri State senior Staci Nelson finished third (9:43.83).  Both Nero and Nelson also clocked career-best times.  
Women's Long Jump   Southern Illinois took home top honors in the women's long jump for the fifth-straight year, as sophomore Malaikah Love improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a leap of 6.23m.  Wichita State's La'Taish Brown finished second (6.22m), while Indiana State's Lauren Martin was third (6.09m). 
Men's 3000m - Final 

Indiana State sophomore Jeremiah Vaughn (8:36.66) edged out two-time MVC indoor champion Jeff Schirmer of Southern Illinois (8:37.33), to win the men's 3,000-meter final.  UNI sophomore Stephen Dak finished third with a time of 8:41.71.

60m Hurdles 

Wichita State's Chris Dickman won the fifth event in the men's heptathlon, posting a time of 8.47 in the 60-meter high hurdles.  Indiana State's Dexter Childress finished second (8.48), Channing Puls of UNI was third (8.63).

Pole Vault 

Daniel Gooris of UNI cleared 5.06m (16' 7.25") in the pole vault, earning 929 points in the pole vault portion of the men's heptathlon.  Wichita State's Chris Dickman (4.96m/16' 3.25") and Justin Taylor (4.76m/15' 7.25") finished second and third, respectively.

Women's Triple Jump 
 

Indiana State senior Lauren Martin set a new MVC indoor and MVC Indoor Championships meet record in the women's triple jump, leaping 13.30m (43' 7.75") to claim the title.  Southern Illinois' Malaikah Love came in second at 12.80m (42' 0"), while Kimsue Grant of Missouri State was third (12.05m/39' 6.50"). 
Women's Shot Put 

Southern Illinois sophomore Jeneva McCall won her second title of the weekend, tossing 16.43m (53' 11") in the women's shot put.  Her Saluki teammate Gwen Berry, last year's defending champion, finished second (15.60m), while Illinois State's Tori Ziegler was third (15.38m).   
Men's High Jump 

Indiana State sophomore Major Clay cleared 2.17m (7' 1.50"), taking in the men's high jump.  UNI's Travis Leuer (2.11m/6' 11") and Julian Morris (2.08m/6' 9.75") finished second and third, respectively.  

Heptathlon 1,000m  

Indiana State's Dexter Childress took the lead on the final lap to win the 1,000-meter in the heptathlon with a time of 2:45.82.  Jordan Zerr of Wichita State finished second (2:46.47), while Shocker teammate Chris Dickman took third (2:47.02).  Full Heptathlon Results detailed below. 
Heptathlon - Final  Wichita State senior Chris Dickman improved his NCAA provisional standard in winning the event with 5,608 total points.  Shocker teammate Krzysztof Slupkowski of Wichita State was the runner-up with 5,490 points, while UNI's Daniel Gooris was third with 5,485, which were both also NCAA provisional marks.

Women's Mile  Wichita State's Tonya Nero led from start to finish, taking the women's mile title in a time of 4:52.35.  Shocker teammate Leah Thompson finished second (4:55.57), while Bradley freshman Nicole Benson clocked a career-best time of 4:55.76 to take third.  

Men's Mile 

Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer out-kicked Indiana State's Jeremiah Vaughn on the bell lap of the men's mile to take the title in 4:15.17.  Vaughn clocked in at 4:17.11. Stephen Dak of UNI was third in 4:17.13.  
Women's Pole Vault  Indiana State's Kylie Hutson increased her NCAA-leading mark in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.48m (14' 8.25"), to win her fourth-straight MVC Indoor Championship in the event.  Southern Illinois' Miracle Thompson finished second (3.88m), while Cassie Craig of Wichita State was third (3.88m). 
Women's 400m - Final 

Illinois State freshman Sade Sealy took home the gold medal in the women's 400-meter, finishing first in the finals with a time of 55.56.  Southern Illinois' Kandise Thompson finished second (55.63), while UNI freshman Sam Cameron was third (56.11). 
Men's 400m - Final 

Wichita State took home to top two honors in the men's 400-meter dash, as senior Nate Thiesfeld (49.04) out-ran his teammate Justin Smith (49.14).  Drake sophomore Jon DeGrave finished third with a time of 49.29.
Women's 60m - Final  Missouri State junior Jodiann Walker (7.54) barely aced out Wichita State senior Audacia Moore (7.57), taking first and second, respectively.  Illinois State junior Yomeaqua Brents was third, clocking a time of 7.58. 
Men's 60m - Final 

Indiana State took home the men's 60-meter dash title for the fourth-straight year, as junior Daryl Truitt crossed the finish line first in 6.83.  UNI's Giorgio Giurdanella was second (6.86), while Southern Illinois' Brandon Deloney took third (6.92). 
Women's 60m Hurdles - Final  Southern Illinois junior Meredith Hayes clocked a season-best time of 8.50 to win the women's 60-meter hurdles, while Shocker Cassie Craig finished second (8.56).  Terri Counts of Southern Illinois crossed the finish line third in a season-best time of 8.57. 
Women's High Jump 

Drake's Tyse Samani, Missouri State's Mareneika Goffe and Wichita State's La'Taish Brown all cleared 1.70m (5' 7") in the women's high jump, with places determined based on judge's decision. 
Men's Shot Put

Southern Illinois sophomore J.C. Lambert won his second event in the MVC Indoor Championship, taking home top honors in the men's shot put with a launch of 17.68m (58' 0.25").  His Saluki teammate Joe Paradiso finished second (17.57m), while UNI's Justin Romero was third (17.32m). 
Men's Triple Jump 

Wichita State's Josh Crawford won his second-straight men's triple jump MVC Indoor Championship with a leap of 15.41m (50' 6.75").  Indiana State's Ernest Rollins was second (14.90m), while Southern Illinois' Maxim Bakana finished third (14.85m). 
Men's 60m Hurdles - Final  Wichita State sophomore Todd McKown took home top honors in the men's 60-meter hurdles, clocking a career-best time of 8.00.  His Shocker teammate Chris Allen finished second (8.03), while Indiana State's Michael Roberts was third (8.07). 
Women's 800m - Final

 

Indiana State senior Erica Moore led from start to finish to win the women's 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:08.35, to win her second-straight indoor championship in the event.  UNI junior Holli Hosch was second (2:11.75), while Drake's Kara McCartney finished third in a season-best time of 2:15.13. 
Men's 800m - Final

 

Southern Illinois junior Stephen Arvanis won the men's 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:53.70.  UNI sophomore Brady Smith was second (1:54.44), while John Neisler of Illinois State finished third (1:54.57). 
Women's 200m - Final  Wichita State sophomore Audacia Moore took home top honors in the women's 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 24.19.  SIU junior Kandise Thompson finished second (24.67), while Illinois State freshman Sade Sealy was third with a career-best time of 24.83. 
Men's 200m - Final  Southern Illinois junior Brandon Deloney took home top honors in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking a season-best time of 21.51.  Wichita State sophomore Todd McKown finished second with a season-best time of 21.91, just acing out UNI's Giorgio Giurdanella (21.92). 

Women's 5,000m  

Wichita State's Tonya Nero won her second event of the MVC Indoor Championship, crossing the finish line first in the women's 5,000-meter run (17:31.03).  Her Shocker teammate Leah Thompson was second (17:34.01), while Drake's Nicole Braunsdorf finished third (17:35.06). 

Men's 5,000m 
 

Southern Illinois' Jeff Schirmer (14:28.60) became the first three-time champion in the men's 5,000-meter run, out-distancing UNI's Stephen Dak (14:30.03).  Wichita State's Jackson Toroitich finished third (14:32.02). 
Women's 4x400   The Indiana State team of Stacia Weatherford, Lauren Martin, Leeann Michl and Erica Moore took home top honors in the women's 4x400-meter relay, clocking a time of 3:43.76.  Illinois State finished second (3:44.74), while Southern Illinois was third (3:48.94). 
Men's 4x400  The Wichita State team of Dylan Hartnett, Justin Smith, Justin Cole and Nate Thiesfeld won the men'st 4x400-meter relay, crossing the finish line first in 3:15.63.  UNI (3:15.81) and Southern Illinois (3:18.68) took second and third, respectively.
