DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball announced Tuesday the names of the 30 semifinalists for the 2009 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, including Missouri State junior lefthander Buddy Baumann. This year will mark the 32nd consecutive year that the award has been presented to the nation's premier amateur baseball player.
Baumann is the 2009 MVC Pitcher of the Year and completed the season with an 11-1 record and 3.23 ERA. The Rogersville, Mo., native is the third pitcher in school history to win 11 games in a season, and his 101 strikeouts in 2009 rank fifth all-time at MSU. The southpaw held opponents to a .220 batting average this year.
Baumann is a 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team member, advanced to the final 15 in consideration for the College Baseball Foundation’s Pitcher of the Year award, and was a two-time recipient of the MVC’s Pitcher of the Week award this season.
