MVC Announces Weekly Golf Awards (March 27)

This week's Missouri Valley Conference golfers of the week include Murray State's Rocco Zakutney and Drake's Julie Huggins.

Murray State men's golf finished the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in fifth place at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn, earlier this week. Rocco Zakutney led the Racers with a ninth place finish individually after shooting a two under in the final round on Tuesday. He finished with a three-round 71-73-70=214 and was the highest finisher for MVC participants (Bradley was also in the event).  The Racers finished the tournament with a 298-284-290=872 as a team. Bradley's Carter Stevenson tied for 14th, just one stroke behind Zakutney. Stevenson has now fired seven rounds under 70 this season and possesses five finishes in the top 20 in seven tournaments. Bradley finished tied for 10th out of 16 teams at 895 (302-300-293).

The Drake women's golf team wrapped up competition at the PING ASU Invitational on Wednesday in a loaded 16-team field, which featured eight programs ranked inside the top-50. The Bulldogs shot scores of 314-307-302 over the three days of play. USC, the No. 2 ranked team in the country, ran away with the team title and won the tournament with a final score of 841. For Drake, Julie Huggins led the team on the individual leaderboard and placed inside the top-25, tying for 23rd. The senior finished the tournament with a total score of 1-over, 217 and bounced back from an opening round 5-over, 77 with consecutive rounds of 2-under, 70. Her second and third rounds of 70 were the only rounds under par for the Bulldogs in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Murray State's Patti Patterson notched a hole-in-one while competing in the Florida State Match Up at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
