MVC in the NCAA Tournament
Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball teams have an all-time record of 108-112 in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.  UNI will be making its ninth trip (its eighth as a member of the MVC) to the NCAA Division I Tournament and first since 2016. Northern Iowa will also off against St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino, who led Louisville to a win against the Panthers in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament in Seattle.

“Upset” Specials in the NCAA Tournament
Since 1994, The Valley has posted five first-round NCAA tourney victories as a No. 12 seed, or worse. Those such-seeded Valley teams to win first-round games include Tulsa (12 - 1994), Missouri State (12 - 1999), Indiana State (13 - 2001), Creighton (12 - 2002), and Bradley (13 - 2006). Tulsa (12 seed in 1994) and Bradley (13 seed in 2006) reached the Sweet 16.  Since 1994, The Valley has posted 15 NCAA tourney first-round wins as a lower-seeded team.

Four Postseason MVC Teams in 2025
The Missouri Valley Conference had four teams in postseason play in men’s basketball as Drake (NCAA), Bradley (NIT), UNI (NIT), and Illinois State (CBI) represented the MVC.  MVC schools have combined for 12 wins in post-season play the past two seasons.  The six postseason wins in 2024-25 matches the ninth-best total in league history.

13-4 in the NCAA Tournament First Round Since 2012
Including Drake in 2025, MVC teams are 13-4 in their first game in the NCAA tourney dating back to 2012. The league has combined for 21 wins in the NCAA Tournament in the past 12 NCAA championships and has had multiple bids 16 times since 1994.

43 NCAA Tournament Wins Since 1994
MVC teams have 43 wins in the NCAA Tournament since 1994 with 12 Sweet 16 trips and two Final Four appearances. Notably, 32 of those 43 wins have been vs. schools from Power conferences. The MVC is 5-7 against Big East schools since 1994 and 0-1 against St. John’s (Wichita State, 1987).

NIT Success - 4 Bids Sets an MVC Record
MVC teams have combined for 89 wins in the National Invitation Tournament in its history, which includes seven NIT titles and four runner-up finishes (including Indiana State’s second-place showing in the 2024 NIT.)  Bradley reached the quarterfinals of this past year’s NIT.  The Braves’ 28 all-time NIT wins are a league all-time best.  The MVC has had three teams in the NIT in the same season three times previously, but never four (1990, 1991, and 2008).

The Valley Runs Deep in the Postseason
In Missouri Valley Conference history, 18 teams have reached the NCAA Men’s Final Four.  The MVC owns four NCAA men’s basketball titles, seven NIT crowns, two CIT championships, and two CBI titles.

Nation’s Second Oldest Division I Athletic Conference
Founded in 1907, the Missouri Valley Conference is the nation’s second-oldest Division I athletic conference (behind only the Big Ten).  The MVC is celebrating its 119th season in 2025-26.
