MVC Indoor Track & FIeld Honors (Jan 28)

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Conference revealed the men’s and women’s track and field weekly honors on Wednesday. Bradley’s Jamie Phillips was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Drake’s Ethan Elliott earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, Illinois State’s Becca Heitzig was selected Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Murray State’s Brooke Probst received Women’s Field Athlete of the Week recognition.

MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jamie Phillips, Bradley, Soph., Troon, Scotland

Phillips broke the Bradley program record in the 600 meters at Iowa’s Larry Wieczorek Invitational, running a time of 1:17.88 to shatter the previous mark by two seconds. The time is the fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference this season, the seventh-best in the Midwest Region, and ranks 34th nationally. The sophomore from Scotland also placed first in the 600m Premier Race, prevailing over multiple conference and Big Ten foes.

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ethan Elliott, Drake, Soph., Fort Knox, KY / Spring Hill College

Elliott claimed first place in the shot put at the Cyclone Open, posting a mark of 18.74m (60-5 3/4). The throw tied the program record for indoor shot put and currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference. Elliott’s mark also ranks third in the Midwest Region and 14th in NCAA Division I this season.

WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Becca Heitzig, Illinois State, Soph., Lincoln, Ill / Iowa State
Heitzig led the Redbird track & field team over the weekend, claiming two event titles at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. On Friday, Heitzig clocked a personal-best time of 2:46.58 to win the 1000 meters and break the school record by more than two seconds (previously 2:49.01). That mark leads the MVC and ranks 29th in the NCAA. The sophomore then took gold in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.80, which ranks fourth in program history and first in the conference.

WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Probst, Murray State, SR., Shabbona, Ill. / Indian Creek HS

Probst earned a first-place finish in the high jump at the SIU Don DeNoon Classic, clearing 1.73m (5'8"). The mark is the best high jump in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and is tied for seventh in program history.
