ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Conference revealed the men’s and women’s track and field weekly honors on Wednesday. Indiana State’s Casey Hood Jr. was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Illinois State’s Rob Pulliam earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, Illinois State’s Pauline Schedler was selected Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Indiana State’s Jahnel Bowman received Women’s Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Casey Hood Jr., Indiana State, Jr., Columbia, MO. / Rock Bridge HS
Casey Hood Jr. continued his strong start to the season at Saturday’s Coughlan-Malloy Cup, breaking Indiana State’s facility record in the 60m. His time of 6.61 was a season best and improved his previous facility record of 6.63 from the season opener. This marked his third sub-6.70 60m performance of the season, making him the only MVC athlete with multiple sub-6.70 times this year. Hood Jr. leads the MVC in the 60m, ranks second in the Great Lakes region, and 10th nationally. He also holds the second-fastest 200m time in the conference this season.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Rob Pulliam, Illinois State, Sr., Moline, Ill. / Moline HS
Pulliam won the men's high jump and long jump events over the weekend to help Illinois State take down conference rival Indiana State and reclaim the Coughlan-Malloy Cup. The senior jumped a winning 2.06m in the high jump, which tied for third in the MVC and 17th in the Midwest Region this season. He followed that up with a personal-record mark of 7.43m in the long jump, which ranks fourth in program history, second in the conference and seventh in the Midwest Region this season.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Pauline Schedler, Illinois State, Fr., Andelsbuch, Vorarlberg / Borg Egg HS
In her Redbird track and field debut, Schedler won the 1000m race with a time of 2:50.77, setting the Coughlan-Malloy cup meet record and Indiana State facility record. That mark, which also stands as the third-fastest time in the ISU record books, 43rd in the NCAA, first in the MVC and ninth in the Midwest Region this season, helped the Redbirds bring the Coughlan-Malloy Cup back to Normal after a two-year drought.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jahnel Bowman, Indiana State, Soph., Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield South HS
Jahnel Bowman posted a career-best performance Saturday at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup, setting meet and Indiana State facility records in the triple jump. Her mark of 12.80m (42-0) ranked second in program history and won the event by nearly a meter. Bowman leads both the MVC and Great Lakes region this season, with her jump ranking 22nd nationally. Her top three attempts all surpassed 12 meters, and she also ran a 55.6 split on the second leg of Indiana State’s season-best 4x400m relay.
