MVC Men's Soccer Weekly Notebook (Nov. 4)

ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced its final men's soccer weekly awards of the 2025 season on Tuesday. Belmont's Brock Kiper has been named the MVC Player of the Week and Evansville's Michal Mroz has been tabbed the MVC Defensive Player of the Week.

Conference News & Notes
  • With it’s 1-0 victory over Northern Illinois on Friday, Evansville clinched a share of the regular-season title, marking its first Conference regular-season championship since 1991.
  • A win or a draw by the Aces against Belmont on Wednesday would give Evansville the title outright.
  • Northern Illinois (vs. Bowling Green), Western Michigan (at UIC) or Drake (vs. Bradley) each have a shot of clinching a share of the regular-season title with a victory of their own and an Evansville loss.
  • Belmont is the only team in The Valley, and just one of eight in Division I, with an undefeated record on the road this season (5-0-4).
  • UIC leads the MVC, and ranks in the top 15 nationally, in assists (42), goals (35) and points (112). They are the only team in The Valley with triple digit points.
  • Edouard Nys (UIC) leads the nation in shots (5.40) and shots on goal (2.73) per outing, while ranking second in Division I in points (33) and third in goals (14). Bowling Green’s Trace Terry joins Nys inside the top 25 in each category with 22 points and 10 goals.
  • Bradley’s Drew Berry is second in the nation with 81 saves, averaging 5.06 per match. Belmont’s Grant Calvert holds the league’s best save percentage (.828), which is the 14th-best mark in the country.
  • As a team, Drake leads The Valley and ranks in the top 15 nationally in shutout percentage (.533) and goals against average (.667).
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brock Kiper, Belmont, R-Jr. - Mason, Ohio (Archbishop Moeller HS)

Brock Kiper’s brace at Bradley on Friday night marked the first by a Bruin since midfielder AJ Chastonay led Belmont past Northern Kentucky (2-1) on Aug. 29 of last year. Kiper scored his team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season in the 5-0 shutout of the Braves, coming off the bench and finding the back of the net only 11 seconds after getting on the pitch. Additionally, he added an assist to finish with five points in just 39 minutes of action. Kiper’s 14 career goals are tied for the fifth-most goals in program history, while he owns a team-best 15 goals this season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michal Mroz, Evansville, So. - Elk Grove, Ill. (Elk Grove HS)

Evansville’s Michal Mroz made a season-high 10 saves in Friday’s 1-0 win over Northern Illinois to help the Aces clinch a share of their first regular-season title since 1991. The 10 saves doubled his previous season high and fell one shy of her career number. Mroz posted his sixth clean sheet of the season with the victory against the Huskies. He added two more saves on the road at Louisville to start the week, as the Aces picked up the 3-1 win.
