Edouard Nys Named to Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List

Junior midfielder is lone Missouri Valley Conference representative for National Player of the Year award

CHICAGO (Oct. 10, 2025) – UIC junior midfielder Edouard Nys is among 31 NCAA Division I men's soccer players who have been selected for the 2025 Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, it was announced Friday by United Soccer Coaches. The Hermann Trophy is college soccer's most prestigious award, having been presented annually since 1967 to the nation's top player. Nys is the first UIC player to be named to the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List since Jesus Perez in 2019.

A native of Dottignies, Belgium, Nys ranks among the top five in the country in six different NCAA statistical categories, as of Friday morning. He leads the nation in shots per game (5.45) and shots on goal per game (2.91), while ranking second in total goals (11) and points (27), and fourth in both goals per game (1.0) and points per game (2.45). His 11 goals and 27 points are just outside the top five on the UIC single-season lists — he currently has the most goals by a UIC player since 2018 (Max Todd - 12) and most points by a Flame since 2002 (Dennis King - 27).

Nys is the only Missouri Valley Conference player on the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, which was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee. On Dec. 9, a total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists following the completion of NCAA Division I All-America Team voting. From that rundown of semifinalists, head coaches will cast votes and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced Jan. 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis.

The MVC has had two players (none from current Valley member schools) receive the Hermann Trophy during its history — Creighton's Johnny Torres (1997) and SMU's Luchi Gonzalez (2001).

UIC (7-1-3, 0-0-2 MVC) returns to the pitch at 1 p.m. (CT) Sunday when it takes on Belmont at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville. ESPN+ will broadcast the match and live stats will be available at UICFlames.com.

For all UIC home soccer matches, UIC students, staff and youths in eighth grade and under are admitted free of charge, while adults and youths in ninth grade and above can purchase tickets for $5 each at the northwest or southeast entrances to Flames Field (either off Morgan St. or adjacent to the entrance to Curtis Granderson Stadium) on match night. Discounted tickets for all veterans and first responders, as well as groups of 10+ adults, are on sale for $3 each. In addition, fans can buy the new Flames Fast Pass, a one-time $50 purchase that will provide the bearer with access to all UIC home athletics events (except men's and women's basketball) during the 2025-26 academic year.
