Western Michigan Draws Clemson in NCAA Tournament Opening Round

The Broncos and the Tigers face off at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday

Western Michigan, who became the first six-seed to win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament title on Saturday, will face Clemson in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Broncos, who are making their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, are set to play the Tigers on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. CT at Historic Riggs Field. The winner of that match will move on and face the No. 16 national seed Furman on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

Western Michigan is 6-4-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, dating back to its first appearance in 2003, including a 5-2-1 ledger over the last three seasons. The Broncos earned The Valley automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 decision over Evansville in the championship final on Saturday, marking their second tournament championship in three seasons as a member of the MVC for men's soccer. WMU's Alex Lindewirth made seven saves while Mathieu Beuvain's bicycle-kick goal in the 72nd minute proved to be the game winner.

Clemson is one of nine ACC teams to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament (Stanford, Syracuse, NC State, Duke, Indiana, SMU, North Carolina and Virginia). This marks the 38th overall appearance for the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 4-seeded Tigers fell to No. 13-seeded Pitt in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

The 48-team field is made up of automatic qualifiers from 22 conferences and 26 teams selected at-large. The top 16 teams were seeded and have received first-round byes. All first-round games will be played Thursday, Nov. 20, on campus sites, while all second-round action will take place Sunday, Nov. 23. The third round will be played Nov. 29 and 30, while the quarterfinals will be played Dec. 5 and 6.

ESPNU will provide live coverage of the semifinals and final Dec. 12 and 15 at First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, as the Men’s College Cup returns to Cary for the 10th time.
