EVANSVILLE, Ind. — No. 6-seeded Western Michigan made the most of its second-half surge, and a standout performance from goalkeeper Alex Lindeworth, to earn a gritty 1-0 road victory over top-seeded Evansville on Saturday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium in the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship match.
After a stagnant first half in which the teams combined for just three total shots, the match opened up dramatically after halftime. Evansville generated heavy pressure—outshooting the Broncos 15-5 in the final 45 minutes and 17-6 overall—but Lindewirth turned away seven saves, including several from close range, to preserve the clean sheet.
The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute, when defender Mathieu Beuvain scored his first goal of the season. The sophomore capitalized on a ball played in by Piero Sabroso, slotting home what proved to be the difference-making strike.
Evansville continued to push, earning nine corner kicks on the night—including six in the final 15 minutes—but Western Michigan’s back line held firm. Lindewirth made four saves in the final 20 minutes alone as the Purple Aces threw numbers forward in search of an equalizer.
The Broncos had to finish the match down a man after Braxton Arpachinda was issued a red card in the 89th minute, but Evansville was unable to capitalize before time expired.
