PLAYER OF THE WEEK: KATIE DINNEBIER, DRAKE
5-8 | Sr. | Guard | West Des Moines, Iowa
Drake’s Katie Dinnebier had another sensational week for the Bulldogs, leading Drake in a convincing road victory at Evansville. Dinnebier poured in 32 points, her second-straight game with that scoring total, and notched her fourth 30-point outing of the year and sixth of her career. She added eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals, and her offensive output came on 12-of-15 shooting, just one-made basket shy of tying her single-game career high. Dinnebier is now second in The Valley with 19.8 points per game and leads the league with an average of 7.3 assists per game.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: GIFT UCHENNA, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
6-3 | Jr. | Forward | Ebonyi State, Nigeria
Southern Illinois’ Gift Uchenna posted 21 points and 21 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, to go with one block at Valparaiso on Sunday. Uchenna’s 21 rebounds are tied for the second-most in a game in SIU history and tied for the fifth-most in a game this season in Division I. She is the first player in Division I this season with at least 20 points, 10 offensive boards and 10 defensive rebounds in the same game. Her 21-point, 21-rebound performance marked the junior’s third-straight double-double and her third 20-point game of the season. Uchenna ranks second in the nation at 12.6 rebounds per contest and is the only player in The Valley averaging a double-double, adding 15.6 points per game.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: CAMRYN RUNNER, EVANSVILLE
5-8 | Fr. | Guard | Cicero, Ind.
In her first Missouri Valley Conference game, Evansville rookie Camryn Runner continued her strong offensive play for the Aces. In a setback to preseason favorites, Runner scored 14 points against Drake while helping on four baskets in 36 minutes of play. With three free throw attempts at the line, and two made, Runner continues to lead the Valley in both categories. Runner also ranks in the top three nationally in both free throw categories behind sophomore forward Si’Mya Nichols of Kansas and senior guard Izzy Higginbottom of Arkansas.
