THE VALLEY RUNS DEEP -- The Missouri Valley Conference (The Valley) is the nation's second-oldest NCAA Division I athletic conference, entering its 120th season in 2026-27. The MVC was founded on January 12, 1907, when administrators from five institutions met at the Midland Hotel in Kansas City, Mo.

THREE IN POST-SEASON PLAY IN 2025-26 -- Three women’s basketball programs – Bradley, Illinois State and Murray State – competed in the 2026 postseason. The Redbirds advanced to the WNIT Championship Game, falling to Marshall in the finale.

RACERS EARN SECOND-STRAIGHT WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT TITLE -- Murray State won its second-consecutive MVC Women’s Basketball Tournament title in 2026 to earn the league’s automatic bid, making its third all-time NCAA Tournament appearance (2008, 2025). The Racers reset their Conference record with 268 points scored in the 2026 event, while becoming the second team in Valley history to notch 31 wins – a program record.

OPENING STATEMENT – Highlighting the first weekend of the season is Opening Statement – a two-year partnership between the Missouri Valley Conference, American Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) and Ivy League, designed to elevate early-season competition amongst some of the top NCAA Division I women’s basketball conferences. Belmont and Murray State will represent The Valley in this year’s event, as the Bruins are set to host.

PRESEASON RECOGNITION – Murray State head coach Rechelle Turner and her trio of returning all-conference performers – Sharnecce Currie-Jelks, Haven Ford and Halli Poock – were placed on preseason watch lists this week. Turner was named to the 2027 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award Preseason Watch List, while Currie-Jelks, Ford and Poock landed spots on the 2027 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch List.

TOUGH SCHEDULE – Missouri Valley Conference programs continue to elevate their schedule and challenge themselves during the non-conference slate. Five of the league’s 11 programs have contests scheduled against AP Preseason Top 25 opponents, including Belmont, who is set to play a neutral-site, nationally-televised game against No. 8 Vanderbilt on Dec. 18, after facing No. 9 LSU on Nov. 23. UNI will travel to face No. 10 Iowa on Nov. 12, and No. 17 Minnesota on Dec. 9. The Hawkeyes will come to the Knapp Center and take on Drake on Dec. 1, while Evansville has games a month apart at No. 14 Kentucky (Nov. 11) and No. 23 Illinois (Dec. 13). UIC opens its 2026 campaign at No. 18 Ohio State on Nov. 2.
