Illinois State’s Emme Olson was named to the 2023 Academic All-America Third Team, selected by the College Sports Communicators (Formally CoSIDA). Olson holds a 4.00 GPA while pursuing her degree in accounting.
For the first time in her career, fifth-year senior Emme Olson has been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American Third Team as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Olson is one of 35 softball student-athletes selected to one of the three CSC Academic All-American teams and is one of 13 that maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is the seventh Redbird in program history to be honored as an Academic All-American and the first since Mack Leonard in 2021.
The 2023 season has been one to remember for Olson as she collected many accolades on the field and in the classroom. At the conclusion of the season, she was named to the All-MVC First Team for the first time in her career after previously being a two-time All-MVC Second Team selection. She also garnered her second First Team All-Region selection in as many seasons, becoming the first Redbird to earn back-to-back First Team All-Region accolades since her sister Abby Olson accomplished that feat in 2009-10.
Olson led the team in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.345), hits (57), doubles (13), RBI (37), multiple-RBI games (10) and on-base percentage (.440) while also helping the team to a program record fielding percentage (.976) with 93 putouts and 107 assists. This season also saw Olson become the new program leader in career doubles with 53 across her five seasons while also ending her career the top five in program history in career games played (3
rd – 219 G), career at-bats (3
rd – 669 AB), career hits (5
th – 217 H) and single-season doubles (5
th – 16 2B [in 2022]).
Off the field, Olson has been excelling in the classroom as she has maintained a 4.0 GPA in her Integrated MPA (Accounting) program throughout her time at Illinois State University. She was voted the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a four-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selection. Recently, Olson was named a State Farm MVC Good Neighbor honoree for her collective work on the field, in the classroom and in her community.
