MVC Student-Athletes Excel Again in NCAA Graduation Success Rate Report

The NCAA National Office has announced Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) data for student-athletes who entered Division I institutions in 2016. The Missouri Valley Conference exceled in both academic student-athlete success measures. MVC student-athletes posted a 92 percent GSR and tied a league record of a 73 percent FGR. Both figures are above the national Division I average.

MVC Men’s Basketball saw marked improvement in both GSR and FGR, posting a 94 percent GSR, which is the third highest rate among all Division I leagues and the second highest FGR, with a 58 percent. MVC Women’s Basketball posted rates of 94 percent and 71 percent in GSR and FGR respectively, both improvements over last year’s marks. Overall, the MVC had 72 teams post a perfect 100 GSR, a new league record. That figure includes all nine (9) MVC women's tennis programs -- marking the fourth-straight year that all teams notched a perfect 100 GSR.

At the institutional level, Belmont posted the highest total in the league with a 98, while Bradley and Evansville tied for second-best with scores of 96 (six above the national average of 90). Belmont also led the way for MVC institutions with nine of its programs reporting a perfect 100 GSR.  Evansville had eight, and four other league schools (Bradley, UIC, Murray State, and UNI) are at seven.  Belmont and Evansville led the MVC in last year's report as well. Belmont's overall graduation success rate of 98 percent tied for sixth among all Division I institutions.  This marks the 10th-straight year that Belmont has finished in the top-20 nationally.
