Offensive

Addy Joiner, Valparaiso
Joiner found the back of the net in both of Valpo’s victories last week, giving her an MVC-best six goals on the season. The sophomore knocked in the match-winner at Belmont on Thursday in the 76th minute in Valpo’s 2-1 come-from-behind win. Joiner than equalized Sunday’s match at Murray State less than eight minutes after the Racers had taken the lead, striking in the 28th minute of Valpo’s eventual 2-1 victory.

Defensive
Georgina Franco, Southern Illinois
In a week where the Salukis earned two shutouts and two victories, Franco was a key contributor on both ends in the two matches. Franco played a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win against Murray State on Thursday night, and followed that effort up with the game-winning assist in Sunday’s 1-0 win against Illinois State. The assist was the first of her career.

Goalkeeper
Camielle Day, Missouri State
Day pitched a shutout in both matches last week, helping blank Indiana State (Thursday) and UIC (Sunday). On Thursday, Day turned back five shots to help maintain a one-goal for MoState, and the Bears topped the Sycamores, 1-0. On perhaps her best showing of the season, Day registered a season-high eight saves Sunday afternoon versus UIC. In a match where MoState was outshot 15-8, Day kept the Flames’ offense from finding the back of the net and helped secure the victory for the Bears, 1-0.

Freshman
Hailey Chambliss, Missouri State
For the second time this year, Chambliss scored all of Missouri State’s goals in a week, resulting in two wins and no losses for the Bears. On Thursday night at home versus Indiana State, Chambliss scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute, leading to a 1-0 MoState victory over the Sycamores. On Sunday afternoon at home, a late score by Chambliss in the 84th minute pushed the Bears past UIC, 1-0. On the season, Chambliss leads all Bears in goals with five on the season (tied second most in The Valley).

Fit to Be Tied
There have been 13 ties in league play this season.  UNI’s five ties in MVC play (and six overall), lead the league.  Drake also has six ties during the season, followed by Evansville, UIC, and Belmont -- each with five.  Evansville holds the league single-season record, with seven in 2021.

Most Ties, MVC Play (Since 1996)
13 -  2022
8 -  2021
6 -  2020 (Spring 2021)
4 -  2004, 2007, 2015, 2016

BEL .. Senior Day
Belmont honored seniors Mai Thy Nguyen, Taylor Dorenkott, and Emily Abdoney for all their hard work over the years and the lasting legacy they have created for the Bruins. Belmont went 1-1 on the weekend with 2-1 win over Evansville and 2-1 loss against Valparaiso. The Bruins will hit the road to Iowa for their final two regular season matches.

DU .. Can’t Be Stopped
After not scoring a goal in her first 59 career games, Meghan Brown has scored four in the past five games including a game-tying goal at UE and a game-sealing goal at Indiana State.

UE ... The Eraser
Offenses in MVC play have found out this year that you simply do not challenge UE junior defender Rachel Rosborough.  This year in league play, the opposition has fired off 100 shots on Evansville in nine matches.  Only seven of those 100 shots have come by players marked by Rosborough, who has played all 810 minutes of Valley play this fall.

UIC ... Home Cooking
UIC will close out the season with two matches at home.  The Flames are 2-2-2 overall at Flames Field, and 2-0-1 at home in Valley play.  No Valley opponent has scored a goal at Flames Field.

SIU ... Tough Defense
The Salukis had another strong week defensively after tallying back-to-back shutouts against Murray State and Illinois State. Southern Illinois has allowed just one goal in its last four games, and are now on a five-match unbeaten run. During that span, the Salukis hold a record of 4-0-1 and have out-scored their opponents, 6-2.

ILS ... It Will Be Different
Evansville and Illinois State are two of the three “life-time” members of women’s soccer in the MVC, as they have played every season of MVC Women’s Soccer since its inception in 1996.  This year’s conference tournament will mark the first in which neither UE nor Illinois State will make the tournament field.  In fact, this tournament will be just the second tournament all-time (2017) in which one of the two schools does not advance to the semifinal round.

INS ... Impact Freshmen
A pair of Sycamore freshmen have stepped in and made an immediate impact all season as defender Adelaide Wolfe has been an anchor of the ISU defense, leading the team with 1201 minutes of action. Midfielder Ella Gorrie leads the Sycamores with six points, recording two assists and scoring twice including a game-winning goal against Evansville on September 22.

MOST .. Two 1-0 Shutouts
Thursday night, MoState shut out Indiana State at home, 1-0, behind Hailey Chambliss’ 12th minute score (assisted by Abby Couch). The Bears stayed in Springfield Sunday afternoon for a matchup with UIC. Behind another Chambliss goal, this one being netted in the 84th minute off an assist by Iraia Arrue, the Bears topped the Flames on Senior Day, 1-0.

MUR .. League Leaders
The Racers continue to lead the Valley in both goals and assists this season with 22 goals and 23 assists in 16 matches this season. Murray State averages 1.38 goals per game while averaging 1.44 assists per game.

UNI .. Richards Shuts Out UIC
Caitlin Richards recorded her third full shutout of the year on Thursday night against the UIC Flames. She made eight saves in the match, bringing her goals against average down to 1.56 from 1.70 the previous week. In her 13th start of the season, Richards eight saves are the second most of the year.

INS ... Inching Closer
CeCe Wahlberg put one shot on goal on Sunday vs. Drake to add to her career total which now sits at 88, just two from breaking the all-time ISU record for shots on goal. The current record is held by Lauren Podolski who finished her career with 89 and is being inducted into the Sycamore Hall of Fame next year.

VU .. Come From Behind Wins
Sunday’s 2-1 win at Murray State, combined with Thursday’s 2-1 win at Belmont, marks just the second time in program history that Valpo has come from behind to win in consecutive matches. In nonconference play early in the 2006 season, Valpo was down 2-1 at Belmont before winning 3-2 in extra time and followed with a 3-1 win at Lipscomb after trailing 1-0.  It also marked the first time Valpo has won multiple matches on the same road trip since wins at Youngstown State and at Cleveland State in October 2009.

DU ... So Many Ties
Six ties are the most in a single-season in Drake women’s soccer history.

MUR .. The Extra Pass
Murray State has three players ranking in the top 10 in assists in the MVC this season with Saraya Young leading with seven and Audrey Henry and Hailey Cole tied for 5th in the league with three assists.

UE ... Closing In
Fifth-year forward Emily Ormson recorded her 18th career goal as a Purple Ace on Sunday, converting from the penalty spot at Belmont.  The goal moved Ormson into 11th place all-time at UE in career goals scored, and she needs just one more goal to crack UE’s career top 10.  With one more goal, Ormson would tie former Purple Aces Stephanie Hartong (1993-97) and Heidi Grey (2004-07) for ninth place on UE’s career goals scored chart.

SIU ... Lougher In Goal
Ary Lougher made her first two starts of the season this week for Southern Illinois.  Lougher tallied her first shutout as a Saluki in SIU’s 1-0 win against Murray State on Thursday night, and then made two saves in Sunday’s 1-0 win vs. Illinois State. As a team, the Salukis now have six shutouts on the year.

UIC ... Streak Ended
Missouri State halted UIC’s five-match unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win Sunday.  The Flames are now 2-1-3 in their last six matches, and have allowed only two goals in that span.

VU .. All to Play For
Valpo has its fate in its own hands this week, as with a pair of wins, the Beacons will do no worse than share the MVC regular season championship - which would be Valpo’s first team conference title since joining the Valley.

MVC Tiebreakers
Seeds for the Conference tournament shall be determined based on the final regular-season Conference standings in descending order according to the MVC point system.

Two-way Tie.
(1) Head-to-head Conference competition with the winner being the higher seeded team.
(2) Composite record (greatest number of points) in the matches tied teams played against all other teams ranked above the two tied teams in the final league standings (not applicable to tie for first place)
(3) Goal differential, conference matches only (goals for minus goals against)
(4) Goals scored, conference matches only
(5) Latest available RPI ranking

Multiple Ties.
For multiple ties, ties shall be broken as follows. If these procedures result in a tie between only two teams at any stage, application of the multiple tie-breaker procedures shall be discontinued and, instead, the two-way tie-breaker policies shall be applied. (For example, A, B and C are tied. A & B remain tied after step (3), while C allowed more goals in conference play. C is “eliminated” and shall be third among the pool of tied teams. A & B revert to the two-way tie-breaker policies, beginning with (1) in 4.2.3 (a).

(1) Composite record (greatest number of points) in all matches tied teams played against each other
(2) Composite record (greatest number of points) in the matches the tied teams played against all other teams ranked above the tied teams in the final league standings (not applicable to tie for first place)
(3) Goal differential, conference matches only (goals for minus goals against)
(4) Goals scored, conference matches only
(5) Latest available RPI ranking
