Wichita State claims top ranking in coahes poll going into the 2016 MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships for both men and women this weekend at University of Northern Iowa.
On the men's side, the Shockers, who were picked as the pre-season favorites, topped the conference, ending with 61 votes. Indiana State followed close behind, ending with 57 points after recieving all but one of the second place votes in the poll. Illinois State (49), Northen Iowa (38), and Southern Illinois (35) filled out the third, fourth and fifth slots. The Sycamores, Redbirds, Panthers and Salukis all fell mid-range in the pre-season poll, as well. Bradley, Drake, and Loyola rounded out the bottom three places with 22, 13, and 13 votes respectively.
For the women, Wichita State showed dominance by recieving eight of nine first place votes, tallying 80 points. Similar to the men's results, Indiana State took second in the poll with 73 points and Illinois State (59) landed third. Southern Illinois (49) , Missouri State (48), and Northern Iowa made up the middle of the pack, while Drake (29), Bradley (19), and Loyola (9) finished seventh, eighth and ninth.
The indoor season will come to a close in February 26-28 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
