CHAMPIONSHIP (NOV. 14) -- Host and fifth-seeded Bradley earned the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, advancing on penalty kicks after a double-overtime scoreless draw with second-seeded SIU Edwardsville. The Braves won the sudden death shootout, 4-3, after six penalty kicks on each side. Bradley freshman Aodhan Quinn was named the Tournament MVP.
FRIDAY (NOV. 12) -- Second-seeded SIU Edwardsville scored two second-half goals and held off Missouri State down the stretch, as the Cougars advanced to the title match of the State Farm MVC Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-1 victory over the Bears. SIUE's Jordan Barnes put the Cougars on the board in the 19th minute with a redirect in front of the goal, while Jose Tamayo netted his first goal of the season in the 31st minute, giving SIUE a cushion heading into the half. Missouri State's Chad Johnson cut the Cougars' lead in half in the 78th minute with a rebound in front of the goal, and while the Bears pressured SIUE for most of the second half, MSU was unable to net the equalizer.
Host and fifth-seeded Bradley advanced to the State Farm MVC Men's Soccer Championship match with a 3-2 win over 12th-ranked Creighton in the second semifinal Friday night at Shea Stadium. The Bluejays scored the first two goals of the match in the first half and owned a 2-1 lead at halftime, but the Braves completed the comeback with two second-half goals to upset the regular-season champion Bluejays for the second time in the last week.
WEDNESDAY (NOV. 10) -- Third-seeded Missouri State upended No. 6 Evansville, 2-0, in the opening quarterfinal game Wednesday in Peoria, Ill. The Bears connected on goals by Paul Paradise and junior Heath Melugin, with his team-leading seventh goal of the season to give Missouri State the win. Paradise scored in the 25th minute to open up the stalemate, while Melugin added the insurance goal in the 81st minute to secure the victory for the Bears. Missouri State goalkeeper Alex Riggs tallied three saves for his league-leading ninth shutout of the season. The Bears advance to Friday's MVC Tournament semifinals for a rematch of last Saturday's game with second-seeded SIU Edwardsville at 3:00 p.m.
Host and fifth-seeded Bradley scored in the 28th minute to knock out No. 4 Drake, 1-0, in the second quarterfinal game Wednesday in Peoria, Ill. Braves' junior Christian Meza netted the goal and freshman goalkeeper Brian Billings needed to make only two saves to make the goal stand as the winner as Bradley advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship. The Braves will take on top-seeded and 12th-ranked Creighton on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION -- The 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship will take place November 10, 12 and 14, at Shea Stadium in Peoria, Ill., hosted by Bradley University. Drake won the 2009 State Farm MVC Men's Soccer Championship, topping fourth-seeded Evansville, 2-1, winning its first-ever MVC Tournament title. The Bulldogs went on to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, while Missouri State fell in the first round to Saint Louis.
