Chris Schuler scored the golden goal in the first overtime as Creighton beat Bradley, 2-1, in the title game of the 2006 State Farm MVC Championship in Peoria, Ill.   With the win the Bluejays earned the league's automatic bid and will represent The Valley in the 2006 NCAA Tournament -- their 15th consecutive NCAA trip.

Schuler's heroics were set up by a goal by sophomore Byron Dacy with just 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation.  Bradley had scored its goal in the 61st minute on a penalty kick by Joe Donoho.  Schuler was one of four Bluejays named to the league's all-tournament team.  Dacy was the league tournament MVP.

The State Farm MVC Tournament Championship aired live on FSN Midwest, Fox College Sports, Comcast SportsNet and Metro Sports. on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.  Veteran broadcasters Dan McLaughlin and Tony Hubert (analyst) called the action from Bradley’s Shea Stadium.
 
All seven Valley teams have been to the league tournament previously.  Creighton has the best success in previous tournaments, going 24-5-1 in 14 previous visits, with nine titles.  Of the league’s current seven members, only Creighton (nine times, Evansville (1996) and Missouri State (1999) have won a tournament crown.  Notably, only four teams (of 11) that have hosted the State Farm MVC Championship have won the tournament in the previous 15 years (four were played at a neutral site in St. Louis).  In fact, the first four tournaments were won by the host, and the host has not won the title since 1994.  The host has played in the championship game nine times (in 11 campus-site tournaments).
