Wichita State swiped the top five spots in the opening event of the men's decathlon to take the early lead. Senior Krzysztof Slupkowski turned in a career-best time of 10.80 to take the event, while Shocker teammates Austin Bahner (10.91) and Aaron Young (10.92) were second and third, respectively.

Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski took top honors in the shot put portion of the decathlon for the third consecutive year with a toss of 14.60m, maintaining the lead in the decathlon. UNI took second as sophomore Daniel Gooris threw 13.42m and Wichita State's Aaron Young had a mark of 12.19m.

Wichita State took the top five spots in the 400-meter dash. Jordan Zerr took top honors for the second time today in the 400-meter dash portion of the decathlon, notching a time of 49.62. Austin Bahner came in second (49.64), while Aaron Young was third finishing in a time of 50.11.

After moving the pole vault inside due to rain, UNI's Daniel Gooris closed the gap on the decathlon leader with a win in the pole vault portion of the event, clearing 5.10m (16' 8.75"). Wichita State's Krzysztof Slupkowski, the event leader, finished second after clearing 4.50m, while his Shocker teammate Justin Hickey was third (4.40m).

Daniel Gooris of UNI took home the gold medal in the men’s decathlon for the second straight season, becoming the third student-athlete to win the event twice at the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Gooris finished first in two of 10 events and second in another four events, compiling a career-best score of 7,346 points. Krzysztof Slupkowski of Wichita State won three of the decathlon events and finished in second-place with a total of 7,006 points. Wichita State’s Jordan Zerr came in third-place after finishing with 6,788 points.
