Indiana State Tabs Lindsay Meggs as Baseball Coach

Indiana State University Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced today (July 20) that Lindsay Meggs has been hired as head coach of the Sycamore Baseball program. Meggs comes to ISU after spending the past 13 seasons as head coach at California State-Chico where he guided the Wildcats to two NCAA Division II National Championships and compiled an overall record of 538-228-4.

“Lindsay Meggs is one of the finest baseball coaches at any level in the country,” said Prettyman. “He brings a high level of experience, success and proven abilities to our program. He will represent us with class and dignity as our program develops into one of national recognition.”

Meggs’ Wildcats have qualified for the world series seven times in the last ten years. They have captured eight conference championships and seven regional crowns in the span. A two-time NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year (1997 and 1999), he has been named regional coach of the year seven times and has captured conference coach of the year honors on seven occasions.

“I’m excited to be on board at Indiana State, and I’m looking forward to assembling a staff and getting in touch
with our current players,” said Meggs. “Sycamore fans can expect to see a team that plays the game the right way and
that takes a lot of pride in representing ISU. I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing in the MVC.”

A 1999 inductee into the California State-Chico Hall of Fame, Meggs led the Wildcats to nine conference championships and advanced to the Division II College World Series seven times. He was a three-time California
State-Chico Coach of the Year winner.

“The National Championships and World Series appearances are a real feather in Coach Meggs’ cap,” said Prettyman. “Even more admirable are his commitments to academics, community relations and the drive and desire to
represent Indiana State University through our baseball program. I look forward to many successful years ahead for
our baseball program under the leadership of Coach Lindsay Meggs.”

Prior to taking over at Chico, Meggs spent three seasons as head coach at Long Beach City College (Calif.)
where he posted a record of 75-51-1. He led his teams to the California Community College Playoffs in each of his
three seasons. His first head coaching assignment came at Oxnard College (1989-90). He served as an assistant
college at California Lutheran University (1988-89) and De Anza Junior College (1987-88).

Meggs earned his master’s degree in education-physical education at Azusa Pacific University in 1992, after
completing his undergraduate degree at UCLA in 1985. As a player, he was a standout third baseman for four years as a
Bruin under coach Gary Adams. He received All Pac-10 Infielder honors in 1983 and was a 15th-round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals in 1984. Meggs earned his Bachelors degree from UCLA, and earned a Masters from Azuza
Pacific in 1992. He and his wife, Teresa, have three children: Joe, Kelly, and Jack.
