Ryan Davis enters his eighth year with the Missouri Valley Conference as Assistant Commissioner for Communications.
He came to the MVC after working 10 years as Assistant Commissioner for Communications at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, where he orchestrated media relations efforts for the league’s 18 sports. Davis also handled assistant commissioner duties for four single-sport conferences, managing 36 institutions across 11 different states. Prior to his 10-year stint at the HCAC, Davis was an anchor and producer for WXLW ESPN 950 AM in Indianapolis, Ind., for two years.
At the Missouri Valley Conference office, Davis is the primary media relations contact for baseball, softball, volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s basketball. To that end, he’ll handle day-to-day, weekly and championship media relations duties for assigned sports, including pre-event releases, game recaps, statistical upkeep and record keeping, media guide content and design, championship press kits and website maintenance.
In addition, he assists with the league’s in-house television package, including education of on-air talent in preparation for MVC telecasts, manages the league’s State Farm Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, coordinates communication with the league’s Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) reps as well as various NCAA selection committees. He is also the primary sport liaison for swimming and diving at the league office.
He is an active member of CSC (College Sports Communicators), sitting as the Vice Chair of the Goodwill and Wellness Committee where he coordinates the community service event at the annual CSC/NACDA Convention. Davis also serves as a member of the CSC Academic All-America Committee. In 2022, Davis was a graduating member of the organization’s first Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship. His MVC Women’s Basketball Media Guide has earned “Best in the Nation” or “Best Cover” honors five times and has also won other publication honors from the organization. He also has a pair of Fred S. Stabley CoSIDA Writing Contest honors.
A native of Greenwood, Ind., Davis is a 2004 graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington, holding a degree in Sports Communications. He and his wife Kristin live in Kirkwood, MO and have a son Nolan (11), daughter Caroline (8) and a dog named Rosie.
