MVC Tennis Weekly Honors (Mar. 11)

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Conference announced the women’s tennis weekly honors on Wednesday. Silvia Pomarolli of Illinois State was named Singles Player of the Week, Maja Dodik and Jordane Dookie of Drake were named Doubles Team of the Week.


Singles Player of the Week
Silvia Pomarolli, Sr., (Cecina, Italy) - Illinois State

Senior Silvia Pomarolli played a key role in two Redbird wins in California last weekend. On Saturday, she clinched a 4–3 comeback victory over Pacific with a 6–7 (5), 6–3, 6–1 win against Rayna Sugai. She followed that with a 6–0, 7–6 (4) win at No. 2 singles against Dominican’s Deepalakshmi Vanaraja in a 7–0 sweep on Sunday. Pomarolli has won eight of her last 10 matches and also plays No. 1 doubles with Lana Caculovic.

Doubles Team of the Week
Maja Dodik, Gr., (Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina) | Jordane Dookie, So., (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) - Drake

Maja Dodik and Jordane Dookie teamed up for two doubles wins at the Bulldogs’ No. 2 position. The Dogs began the week with a 6-2 victory over Jessica Sue Li and Elena Palioura of SIUE. They proceeded to drop Omaha’s group of Jacqueline Pearsall and Shelby Smith by the same score a day later.
