MVC Tennis Weekly Honors (Feb. 24)

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Valley Conference announced the women’s tennis weekly honors on Tuesday. Maja Dodik of Drake was named Singles Player of the Week, Cielo Tapia-Cruz and Mia Jones of Belmont were named Doubles Team of the Week.

Singles Player of the Week:

Maja Dodik, Gr., (Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina) - Drake

Drake’s Maja Dodik put together another unbeaten weekend with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Saint Louis’ Emmerson White following a 3-set triumph over Chicago State’s Karolina Skowronska. Both of Dodik’s wins came in the No. 1 position. She also added a pair of doubles wins as Drake shut out both of its opponents this weekend.

Doubles Team of the Week:

Cielo Tapia-Cruz, Gr., (Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico) | Mia Jones, Fr., (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) - Belmont

The tandem of graduate Cielo Tapia-Cruz and freshman Mia Jones collect their first Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week award after helping lead the Bruins to their first dual match win of the season this past weekend. The duo defeated Tennessee State’s Victoria Cooksey and Claudia Murdasanu 6-3 at the top of the doubles lineup to clinch the key first point. With Tapia-Cruz and Jones’ assistance, the Bruins were able to secure their first victory of the season, defeating the crosstown Tigers 6-1.
